There are other ways...baking soda rinses, lemon rinses, even using brown sugar. Most conditioners also have things in them that clean your hair. As you rinse the conditioner out it takes the dirt with it. I`ve actually had my conditioner suds up a little. Not as much as shampoo of course.
Hi! I`m Natalie too. If it makes it easier you can refer to me as Nat. I also bought the curly hair book by Lorrained Massy about 3 months ago. At first my hair was looking really frizzy and I just had to keep using my products, like funky chunky. I was bummed. Then about 3 weeks later my hair started to change. Now 3 months later, I am able to wash everyday with NO shampoo but only conditioner, every day, and I really scrub the conditioner into my scalp and I massage it into my hair itself. I leave it in for the time it takes to wash all over and then I rinse it out. I just let the water fall on it. I think some stays in. Then I don`t towel dry it at all. I shake it a little, smacking it against the shower door and then squeeze it out by simply scrunching it just like you would scrunch moose or gell into it. Yesterday since I wasn`t going anywhere I decided to scrunch it with NOTHING in it after my shower. It looked awesome! I was shocked. I wished I had gone out. Sometimes I put a John Freida salt water on it that I bought from the store. Other days I do a non sticky gell. I just do a little bit and I make sure I scrunch scrunch scrunch and not touch it. I usually wear it in boppy pins and wallah! I`m also trying to grow my hair out.
My hair has never been so soft, especially the ends. I use the baking soda mixed with conditioner if I feel like there is buildup accumulating, followed by a lemon rinse.
I also just bought the Curly Girl book and this is day 2. I only used conditioner and didn`t rinse it out all the way. My curls are looking really good! I`m going to buy the Lavender oil today!
I`ve been fighting my very curly, very thick hair for 40 years now! I`ve straightened it most of the time, which takes about an hour. I use straignteners and either blow-dry it straight or to get it stick straight, I use a very hot large barrel curling iron(little section by little section). People are amazed that I can get my hair so perfectly straight! BUT, I`m so tired of the battle and really want to try and go curly most of the time. The CURLY GIRL methods look very promising!!
do the results also make ure hair look thin and not puffy cause my hair is curly/wavy and there is no frizz when i take care of it but the problem is it`s poofy.
Yes, my biggest problem when I would wear my hair curly was that it would just get poofier as the day went on. So far, it`s a lot less poofy so I don`t get that triangle effect and it doesn`t get bigger and bigger as the day goes on.
So far, so good with this "Curly Girl" way of doing things. And there`s nothing I haven`t tried in the past :)

I can`t really answer the poofiness question. My hair looks fuller in a way but only because it now curls to the roots. Since my hair is to the middle of my back that keeps it from being a triangle.
