Hi

I know this is a curly forum, but I figured I`d get more responses here so....

1. How often do you straighten?

2. How long does it take you to straighten?

3. What products do you use to straighten?

4. What kind of techniques do you use?

5. Do you prefer to wear your hair curly or straight?

Thanks!!!

I might as well answer too...

1. I straighten about every 2-3 days, depending on how clean my hair stays after every blow-out.

2. When I really take my time, it takes about 35 minutes. When I rush, like this morning, it takes 20 minutes, but looks bad. :-)

3. I love using different products! This morning, I used Biolage Hydrating shampoo (MY FAVORITE), KMS Hair Prepare conditioner (my fave conditioner so far..), Thermasilk Weightless Frizz Fighter, and Citre Shine Straightening Balm. And so far, my hair looks really nice, just a lil frizzy and wavy in the back where I didnt have time to properly dry it.

4. I clip up my top layers and the hair in the back and make sure to dry the bottom COMPLETELY so my hair doesn`t look like a total mess if I don`t have time to properly dry the top layers.

5. STRAIGHT! I have naturally wavy hair with some tighter waves and loose curls in the back but it looks horrible whenever I air-dry. Like a rats nest. LOL.

Wow!! I thought my straightening routine was complicated!! Here`s what I do:

Every 3-4 days I wash my hair at night. Once a month or so I`ll do an olive oil treatment for an hour before washing. I use a special shampoo for African American hair -- it`s called Creme of Nature Ultra Moisturising Shampoo. I dilute this 50% w/ water -- it`s really thick. After washing and conditioning with any sort of cond. (not so important, it`s the shampoo that really makes a difference) I gently pat and squeeze the excess water out of my hair. I have a special Japanese extra-super-duper hair towel that REALLY soaks of the water.

I`ll then wrap and twist my wet hair up in a turban while I brush teeth, body lotion, etc. When done with all the other "bedtime" rituals I take my hair out and work through a small amount of another product primarily for African Americans -- called "All Ways Natural Instant Oil Conditioner". This is a leave-in type, and a little really goes a long way. I concentrate it on the ends and the sides, where it needs it the most. Then, I sometimes apply a teeny amount of coconut oil on the ends -- for some reason this seems to realllly help with the straightening process (still to come!!) Finally, I gently finger-comb it out and go to bed!!

In the AM I fingercomb my hair, it`s usually quite fluffy and full and incredibly wavy -- but I like straight hair so I`ll usually take my Revlon Perfect Heat 1.5" curling iron set on "10" (on a heat scale of 1-20) and part my hair in the middle, and get to work on smoothing out the wild waves. This takes about 20 mins. since my hair is all one length (except for bangs). I do my bangs last.

Then I`m set for the next 3-4 days, or until I decide to wash. I never blow-dry -- that totally frizzes and fries my hair soooo badly. If it`s humid or rainy, in the evening after applying the leave-in oil conditioner I`ll apply a small amount of any brand straightening balm on the areas that curl the most -- such as bangs and around my face.

On the nights I don`t wash my hair, I pile it all on a big ball on top of my head or a loose ponytail, and clip it in place. It`s a little messy and loose, but it`s just for sleeping and I want itto be comfie!!

In the mornings that I don`t wash it, I let my hair out of the clips, fluff a little with my fingers, and I am finished!! So i think it`s worth spending the 20-25 mins. a few times a week -- that`s way less than just about everyone I know!!!

By the way -- my hair touches the top of my cheekies!! (not my face cheekies, the cheekies down below!!)

If you want your hair to be totally straight without having to do all of the blow-drying and other annoying things, you should consider doing the Japanese hair straightening technique. It costs around $350+ but if you think about how much money and time you probably spend trying to straighten your hair yourself, the Japanese technique is probably more cost effective. The Yuko system lasts for around 6 months and you go back to the salon to get a touch up on the roots to keep it straight.

I Straighten my hair about 3 times a week depending on my mood...My hair is really curly and Ive tried so many creams and they dont work...I used to iron my hair..With a regular Iron and it works greatly...Your hair is soooooooo staright and flat and shiny its great..But the one problem is that you cant get the top...I then tried The straigntening serum by VO5 and it works really good as long as you blow dry the top...I also have a ceramic straightner that is better then the iron and it cost about $200..Othe flat irons dont get hot enough such as Hot tools which works but 1 takes forever and 2~doesnt get that hot..With the ceramic starightner it gets just as hot as hte iron and you can get the top of your head..and it only takes me an hour..to do my hair layer by layer..top to bottom..and yet it lasts till you either wash your hair or it gets wet in some type of way....Hope I could assist you..And if you have any questions feel free to email me!........BrItTaNy <3

Okay First off im mixed black and white and my hair is strange LOL its naturally curly but i use Motions relaxer. I still wear my hair curly but its much much easier to straighten. Over the years this is what i find works

In the winter i straighten all the time. .in the summer i usually go curly. It usually takes about an hour for me to do everything i need to do

I wash my hair with Motions Lavish conditioning shampoo.. If your hair is thick or dry.. THIS IS THE BEST SHAMPOO..i usually only condition once or twice a week.
I then use infusium leave in if im straightening or not. Then i use a product called Moisture Maxx which is a light oil moisteriser. Then i have a hair bonnet dryer that attaches to your blow dryer and i usually sit under that for 25-20 mins. If your hair is really long you will have to dry your ends. I usually just let my ends dry while i get dressed or whatever. Then i use a big fat Gold N Hot curling iron on 8 or 9. I start in the back with all my hair but the back section clipped up and i just run the iron down my hair and bump the ends. It usually takes another 20 mins or more depending on how my hair is behaving and thats it. That lasts me abot 3 days. Everyday i just add a little moisture maxx and give it a little help with the curling iron. I also get my hair trimmed on a regular baises to keep the split ends down but because im not pullin a brush through my hair to get it dry i think it cuts back. I condition with the Motions conditioner with hot sixx oil and i leave it in with a bag on my head while in the tub or cleaning the house Ill use that hot sixx oil on my ends if they need help. Im looking to try some rusk products cause im a product hog so if anyone has suggestions let me know!

Matrix just came out with a new straightening line of products (the packaging is orange). I have used everthing out there and this is the best so far. Be sure to purchase a good blow dryer (at least $70 from a salon, other blow dryers dry out your hair, trust me, there is a difference and it is worth it) and use a burst of cold air at the end to seal in the style and prevent frizziness. The matrix system is a four step process. be sure to use all the products. I love it!!!

Hi!
1)I straighten all my hair thoroughly every 3 days, and the fringe every day.

2) It takes about 45 minutes.

3) I use a laminates protecting spray to prevent my hair fron frazzling, and laminates gloss drops to repair any damage done by my straightener.

4) I bought a professional straightener from my salon, this works a lot better than my old babyliss one.

5) Straight, definately. Its just so much easier to straighten my hair and leave it in a ponytail than it is to try and perfect my curls every day.

Hey guys!

I love to have my hair straight, but it`s really thick, gets really wavy/curly so I refuse to let it air-dry.

My hair also looks like a rats nest if I let it air-dry. It seems like a lot of you can relate!
Lol.

I`ve been reading a lot of the replies, and it seems like these oil treatments moisturise and stuff really well.

What exactly do they do to you hair, and how do they help straighten? Can you give me some good names of products to test?

Also, my hair is currently fried from my straightener (Conair Steam Straightener 30.00 Canadian). How can I make it smooth and nice again?

Help!

"And to make a long story short, I was wearing an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time..."
