relaxed hair

I recently had my curly hair relaxed at a salon I have frequented for 20 years. The strangest thing has happened to my hair after the procedure. I feel tiny spiked hairs all over the top of my head. My operator said that the newer hairs grow in one way and are forced by the relaxing solution to go another way.
Before the explanation, I feared that my hair had broken off from the chemicals although I didn`t see any laying in the shower after I washed it. Also, for the first week my hair did seem thinner. The explanation was that I needed a weeks` growth to give it some lift. It has been 10 days since it was straightened and 7 since it was colored. Now it seems fine although I still have those tiny spikes of hair on my scalp. What do you think?
