QuoteReplyTopic: How often should you get your ends trimmed? Posted: March 27 2002 at 6:41pm
Hello, everyone I would like to know how often you should have your ends trimmed. Do you go every 6 weeks or later or earlier than that. I`ve heard 6 weeks but wanted to know how others did theirs.
I go every 8 weeks and just get the very ends nipped off. My hairdresser only takes off what she needs to and after about a week or 2 it`s back to the length it was before the trim and in much better condition.

Same here, except I go 9 weeks on average. I understand that some people get by with much less frequent trims or even no trims, but my hair does much better with regular trims.

If you are trying to grow your hair long getting it trimmed every 6 weeks will defeat the purpose, as average hair growth is only 1/2" per month. If you are growing out from a short cut, you might want somewhat frequent trims to keep it looking neat as it grows.
I have almost waistlength hair and get it trimmed professionally about every 8 months. I trim splits myself as I see them with super sharp scissors used only on hair.
Go as long as you can between trims if your goal is long hair. :-)

I go about every 6 months because I am wanting my hair to grow a lot. Once it gets to my goal length I will trim more often. If you hair is in good condition and shape (meaning how it looks), then you don`t need to trim very often.
P.S. Hi Tresses! I post as Wishing4 at LHC.

It depends on what you are trying to achieve with your hair. If you are trying to maintain a certain length, shape and style then I would suggest you work out your hair growth rate (the average is about 1cm per month) and determine the maximum tolerable length before a trim is required. That way you won`t waste your time and money.
If you are growing your hair long I suggest you seriously re-consider the necessity of professional trims. Get a trustworthy friend to section your hair, gently twist each section`s length and trim off ONLY any damaged (split) hair. Healthy hair stays put.

The last time I went for a trim was 8 months ago, at the end of this month I`ll let my stylist take of 1cm. I`m growing out a short bobcut. I`m doubting between two styles: layered hair a few inches below my shoulders or a mid-thigh length but then I`ll have to have patience and I`m already 22 years old so when it`ll be long maybe I`ll be to old for it.
As for me, you can go from as early as 4 weeks and as late as 9 weeks. But, I noticed that your hair should not have to wait more than 3 months without a trim. You might not notice it, but your hair starts to look ratty at the ends, until finally it`s trimmed and your like, wow, this looks so much better. I also dye my hair, sometimes and have bleached it a few times. Not much lately, anymore.
You should try a really good deep fortifying conditioner 2 or 3 times a week, especially if you do dye or bleach on a regular basis.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind. Not a star? big deal. star in your own damn show. Your body is your temple, worship it.

what do you think?
Caro, Anyone can have long hair. Don`t let people say you look better with short hair, or that you are too old, they are just jealous. You`re 22 now, so when you`re 28 it should be the length you want? That is not old at all. There are 60 yr. olds with long hair. If older people weren`t supposed to have long hair, it wouldn`t keep growing. Long hair makes you look younger too!
I decided to go for the thigh length hair! This`ll kost me years and years of work and patience but I did it before (went from a short crop to waistlength) and I can do it again!
It`s my habit to use a color shampoo (semi-permanent) every two or three months, I hope this isn`t to damaging for my hair.

The semi-perm shampoo-in colour isn`t as damaging as permanant colour, but why compromise your hair`s health & condition at all? What`s the problem with your natural colour?
Just imagine......thigh-length, shining, swishing, healthy hair. In a shade that matches your skin tone and eyes.....coloured by Nature.
Whatever you choose, best of luck to you.

well, there`s not really anything "wrong" with my natural haircolor, it`s a light brown color. I just like a change sometimes, either coloring or cutting, and since cutting isn`t an option anymore (I really want long hair) ...
I only choose a shade that`s one or two tones darker, or one with a subtle reddish glow, no bleaching or so.
