Hey, i`m 14 and am in grade 10. I`ve always been growing my hair and have never had it at a certain length planning to keep it like that for a while. It`s always just been growing. I`ve had trims, but those were only to tidy my hair up. Anyhow, my hair, when out, is just at that top of my bum :) i am thinking of cutting 1/3 of it off so it will be just a bit longer then below the shoulders. I`m thinking that it won`t be too short if i don`t like it, and i can grow it back quicker, or that if i do like it i will keep it at that length. So i`m asking, should i take the plunge? i really don`t want to regret it. thx ^_^

How did you come up with this 1/3 of a cut decision? And sice when does a teen-ager listen to the advice of an adult? As a proponent of long hair, I would always vote against cutting off long hair, especially at the classic length yours has reached. But what do I know?

Maybe if you just want a change, try putting lots of curls in your long hair. If its natually curly, use a straightening iron to make it straight. Or, maybe go to a stylist and have them do a foil for some highlights or lowlights. You could even have them cut just a tad to frame your face or give you bangs maybe. I wouldn`t go whole hog right away.

I`m big on "trying" it first. How about going to a wig shop and trying on a new style b4 taking the plunge? To buy one you prob. need about $200, but thats a small price to pay considering if you cut so much off it may take quite a while to grow back.

Emily if you really want a change why not just cut it so it reach your waist? That way you will still feel that you have lots of hair and you will also feel that you have less. Cutting your hair to shoulder length is fine but even thought you think it not too short today you might find it shocking and miss your hair. I think cutting a bit off at the time will help you decide if you really want shorter hair without any regrets. Afterall you can always go back to the stylist to cut more if you wish afterwards.

This is from experience Emily. My hair is past my waist right now and a stylist that didn`t have any experience cut off 6 inches of my hair at the time ( I had waist lenght at the time) when I only wanted 1/2 to 1 inch off so at the time I really felt nude eventhough in the public eyes I have tons.

I have heard too many girls complain about their decision and really miss their hair. I can easily understand your need to change a bit .

I think you should do it. When I was your age I done the same thing and loved it. You still have 2 years left of high school and it can grow back by the time your a senior. Good Luck which ever way you go!

I cut my hair, and I regret it. I am growing it out now, but I definately hate it short, and will never cut it again. I always encourage people not to cut their hair, and I find that the urge to cut goes away, after a while if you ignore it. I hope this helps. :o)

I agree with those that say cut it a bit at a time. I had very long hair that was cut from my waist to my shoulders at the same age you are now, and I regretted cutting it all off so fast. Try getting layers and having it cut halfway up, then go the whole hog if you`re happy with that.

Hi, I am a bit confused because I didn`t write this thread but if you click on the name it comes up with my e-mail address and stuff. I have had a couple of e-mails about it which really confused me. What is going on?
