I don't profess to be an expert in straightening.....But in any straightening class I have had, it was made clear that you don't use the same cemicals (straighteners) on both caucasion and ethinic hair. They seem to show both in the pics. It would be interesting to know the ingredients in this product....???Is it a Sodium Hydroxide based product or is it a Thioglycolic based product??? Or something else? Does it require a neutralizer??
Hope fullyyou will get more info on this from others..
Here is what the website stated concerning ingredients. What do you think???
Q: What are the ingredients in Curl-Away? Are they harsh?
A: Curl-Away uses completely different ingredients than other relaxers and is gentle on hair. It is a low pH, water-based gel containing deionized water, natural, organic acetic acid, a cosmetic emulsifier, MSM (dimethylsulfone), grapeseed oil, xanthan gum, PEG 400 Monistearate, and fragrance. These ingredients relax curl and soften coarse hair.
Curl-Away is non-alkaline and safe for all hair types. Curl-Away may also be used on previously straightened hair.
No, no, no, no, no. Anytime anyone makes a relaxer sound so easy the consumer usually ends up crying his or her eyes out. Please, if you want a gentle, non damage relaxer find a salon in your area that can give you a damage free, maintamer relaxer. This is an iso based relaxer that is very much like tr but doesn't get your hair pin straight. I just had maintamer done to relax my curly hair by Capelli D'oro in NY and they did and awesome job. I am more than happy to help you find a salon that does this process or you can try going to the salon board on beautywalk and you will see dozens of posts from me and others regarding maintamer and the liscio gentle relaxer.
I recently bought Curl-Away relaxing gel from xenna.com, but I am still waiting for it to come in. I checked out all the info, and it sounds pretty safe to me, but I am still going to do a strand test just to be sure. I think your best bet would be to try it out. It does sound too easy to be true, but based on the ingredients it doesn't look like it has anything that could harm your hair- the only warning is that it is an eye irritant! I'll tell you how my experiment with it goes, so you can decide for yourself. Good luck!
I tried it. The first time I used it I left it on for 3 hours as directed to remove my frizz but not take away my curl. My hair looked exactly the same.
So the second time I tried it I left it on for 6 hours. Hair still looked exactly the same.
When I called them & told them they were pretty good about it & issued a credit for the full amount right away.
I bought Curl-Away and used it... it was horrible! It has a kind of glue in it, and it smells kind of like Elmer's with something else added... very unpleasant, and very strong. It softened my hair and straightened it, but it poofed out and made it look worse. I definitely would not recommend this... I got a full refund for mine. If you are willing to spend hours blow-drying your hair straight and flat-ironing it after using this product, then it would be good, but alone it is bad... and the smell lingers in your hair for days.
