Recently I had over 7 inches cut off my hair by accident. The hairdresser kept saying "Oh, your hair is thick and heavy, so the length will stay."

I wanted it cut so that it would stay at least 2 inches below my shoulders. She cut it wet, and now that it's dry, it's about 2 inches ABOVE my shoulders, and now my head & hair have this LOVELY PYRAMID SHAPE that is DISGUSTING.

Is there anything I can do? I've never had layers before and I'm frightened of making this even worse. Are there any haircuts for thick, short curly hair that are decent? I don't have afro-type ringlets, so a Beyonce Knowles-type hairstyle is impossible to achieve.

I'm 19, I have very thick, curly brown hair, and I need options. I can't straighten every day.

Stephanie,

seems as if the only quick fix here is to put some type of layers into your hair to reshape it a bit. I am in the midst of growing out my super-short hair (I had it at only 4 inches at one time) and it's now about an inch above my shoulders. Even when i had long hair, i always had layers because i have sooo much hair. Having layers really saved me while growing it out

Light layering at the ends would really help a lot. Or, if your a bit scared to try layers, you could do inverted/reverse layers. it's less obvious as it looks like a smooth flow of curls from top to bottom but will definately help reshape it.

i wish i had a picture of my hair with these layers, we did this at one point to keep down the bulk. i do have a few pics of my hair with layers at the length you seem to be talking about. E-mail me at farrahlyn@yahoo.com and i'll send some.
CO wash only since September '04! Dyed red botticelli curls (3b), fine and just past shoulder length
