and its GREAT!
im a guy with long thin curly hair, but i have a lot of it. so i guess you could say its plentyfull(thick) and fine. anyway this means that when its dry it poofs up into an afro.
ive tired tons of products. nothing worked.
when i tired gel it made my hair brittle and just weird looking. when i broke the brittle gel my hair just poofed up again.
i tried wax, but it just left my hair gressy and even thicker (uhh it was horrable).
then i tried pomade. this sort of worked. my hair was still really greasy but not as bad as wax. but with the pomade no matter how carful i was my hair would have little frizzys sticking up all the time, and of course no one could touch my hair without recoiling with goo on their hands.
then i tired blow drying it stright with "strightening gel." this resulted only in a bigger afro.
finnaly I went to a salon with pictures of what i wanted my hair to look like.
i learned two very important things.
1) if youre a guy with long curly thick hair get it thinned. stylests can do this with either feather razors or thinning shears. it makes a world of difference!
2) get it relaxed!
i just had my hair relaxed yesterday and its amazing.
its like i finnaly have normal hair.
no more frizz. no more outrageous curls. no more afro. no more sticky gel or pomade. it feels and looks great .
i now realize that those products were not designed for my former hair. it was like my hair was such an afro it just over powered the product. now i can use the prodcuts normaly to actualy style my hair.
the whole procedure cost $65. because my hair is not even close to shoulder length there was no need for japanese straightening. there was a little bit of initial skin irritation during the procedure but it went away as soon as the stylest rinced the solution out. the procedure lasted an hour and seemed very complicated. lots of lotion and steaming and other stuff so i bet it would be hard to do this at home. but its totaly worth the $65.
anyway im so happy i just had to share my success with this form that helped me out so much! and hopefully this post can help other guys with my hair type.
the only thing is you MUST condition ever day! as i understand it my hair is now suceptable to drying out big time. as i just had the procedure done i dont know how this will play out in the long term.
right now im using neutrogena leave in triple moisturizing conditioner.
maybe you guys can reccomend a good condish for relaxed hair.
Hi Jinx, It is great to read your attempts and then a successful relaxing story. But you have forgotten to mention the name of the product that was used to relax your hair. So, what is the name of the product I can tell you all of my hair relaxing attempts and how often my hair damaged was. Thank god Im a guy (no offence girls ) and I can chop all of my hair off when needed I always (and will always) rely on Phytospecific line. It is expansive but it works like magic. It is Actually geared towards hair that has been chemically relaxed and works wonders on damaged hair. Keep us up-to-date. Cheers Kereltje
