I have naturally wavy/curly hair and I can't figure out what to do with it. I usually blow-dry it straight but lately I've been trying to wear it curly a little more to keep it from becoming too badly damaged. The past few days I've been washing & conditioning it in the morning then after towel drying it a little I use a wide tooth comb to untangle it and let it air dry for about an hour to let some of the natural curl come through. Then I scrunch a little Dep Curl Defining Gel into my hair and let it air dry the rest of the way. My hair looks okay when I do this but I hate that when I use gel my hair is so stiff and has no movement to it. I have very frizzy hair though and I need gel or something to help control the frizz. I was just wondering if anyone has any style suggestions that would take up less of my time in the morning or if you know of any products that help control frizz without leaving hair stiff, sticky, greasy feeling, etc... Any advice at all would be appreciated.

SweetDestiny, there arewo many things you are doing right but a few things could be better. Conditioning is extremely important because dry, curly hair = frizz. The Dep gel i have heard great reviews on from another board i frequent. However, if you are getting a lot of crunch, it may be a bit strong for you. I use the Suave Firm Hold Gel that is the knockoff of Biolage gelee. It is a thin gel and provides good hold and moisture for my curls without a lot of crunchiness. Or, to get rid of a lot of crunch, flip your head over (when dry) and scrunch hair with your hands until the crunchiness is gone.

Another factor in frizziness (believe it or not) is towel-drying your hair. When exiting the shower, only squeeze excess water from your hair with your towel; no rubbing whatsoever. Even better is to use an old, soft t-shirt, it won't disturb your curl pattern as much and helps with frizziness. I also get a lot of crunch in my hair if i air-dry so i dry part-way with a diffuser attachment only on low.

Another tip to reduce frizziness. Comb out your hair in the shower after putting in your conditioner and only then. Also, try and do your final rinse unside down to keep your hair from sticking too close to your head. I've found that for my own hair, this helped more than anything to reduce the amount of frizz. The only other time i may comb it out is after applying my gel and i see it is a bit too frizzy. after applying product, even if i don't comb though, i always scrunch using a t-shirt. THis helps with crunch, too.

I hope this helps a bit and ask away if you have anymore questions.

If that horrible crunchy feeling when you touch your hair is bothering you.

You can resort to other products like serums and oils. Or a light spray gel.

I perfer serums, like the new Sleek and Shine serum from Garnier Fructis.

If you braid your hair or put it into a bun at night. You will get managable waves that you can easily control with a dab of serum.
