QuoteReplyTopic: color then perm or perm then color Posted: February 17 2005 at 8:35am
I want to perm my hair when I go home for spring break (March18). I also want to change the color. Currently my hair color is brownish/auburnish with lighter highlites. The color I want to dye my hair is red. What should I do first color then perm or perm then color?

Perm then color. The perm will change the color otherwise, but you should wait at least a week before you color.
How long is your hair and what kind of perm and cut/style are you going to go with (remember a great cut can make a huge difference with the curls!!) What color red?
Good luck! ~~Spirals~~

Well my hair is about 3 inches below my shoulders. Ummmm...maybe slightly longer. I want a spiral perm. As for the color I'm thinking something in the shades of Loreal Feria copper shimmer or summer blaze. Any suggestions as to the cut! Basically my hair is all one length but layery on the bottom couple inches.

Very fun colors - anything red is so hot right now (I'd love to go red right now ... working on getting the nerve up for it!) What color is your hair now? I love spiral perms, sounds like your hair is a great length for it. I always have really liked layers with curls because it brings out the most curl. If you keep it more one length then there won't be as much curl the closer you get to the top of your head because the weight of the hair will stretch the curl out (hopefully that makes sense). I'm sure your stylist will have some ideas based on the look you want to go for, but no question that curls are back in!
Let us know how it goes and if it comes out how you're hoping - before and after pix would be fun too!
Thanks girls for the advice. I'll talk to my stylist about adding layers. I trust her totally. She's been my stylist since I was 15. She's just so good. Yea the color is totally way different for me. I'm a little nervous but excited too. Its just so red and different. hahaha I think it will be fun to try !
