I have been reading a lot about this business of "oiling hair". OK. So do you do it on wet or dry hair? I heard that you need to keep the oil away from the scalp to avoid clogging the pores. However, do you wash the hair after you oil it or what? Can you use it every day w/out getting the greasy build-up?

My hair is dry and someone told me that I should just mist my hair w/ a combo of oil and water. Does this really work?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Use an extremely small amount of oil (the size of a pea). rub it into your palms and run your hands through your hair. You may want to repeat the process if your hair is still dry but stop if your hair starts to get greasy. Until you learn how much oil is right for you, do this before you wash your hair, so that if it gets overly oily you`ll be washing out the excess anyway.

Hope this helps.

hi tina, i responded to your last post same as this one down the board with another post titled response to oiling question.

it says:

for some reason, i just can`t post a response to that question! so here it is:

there are many ways to oil your hair! you can oil as a deep treatment, as a leave in, as a mist, as an ends treament... i`ll try to explain a few.

as a deep treatment : i use a heavier oil such as avocado, you can also use sweet almond, jojoba, olive, etc. i apply to dry hair so that my hair is well covered in the oil, but not soaking so it drips! then i wrap my hair up in a shower cap or towel, and leave it for at least an hour. if i can, i braid it and sleep with the oil in my hair- this gives the best results. shampoo out as usual, if you`re using an extremely gentle shampoo you may need two shampoos. condition as usual!

as a leave in : after washing and conditioning, apply a small amount of oil through the length of your hair. i use about 10 cents worth, for my hair that`s nearly waist length. comb it through and allow to dry. if your hair turns out greasy, you`ve used too much oil! an oil such as jojoba is good for this because it most closely resembles your sebum. i also use avocado with good results.

as a mist : the theory behind this one is that the water moisturises your hair, while the oil seals it keeping the moisture in. make sure you shake well before you spray so the oil and water are mixed! you can apply this several times per day. you`ll know when to wash as your hair will end up with too much oil on it! but i think it would be safe to mist as often as needed.

as an ends treatment : apply oil to the ends of your dry or wet hair. the hair should soak it up within a few hours. i braid my hair and apply to the hair below the elastic band. this protects the ends that aren`t in the braid!

there you go :)
