What`s better for your hair, to blowdry it out yourself, or to have it straightened by a hot comb??

When you asked what`s best for your hair are you referring to virgin or relaxed hair?
Remember relaxed hair is already chemically altered and not as strong as virgin hair. But this does not mean that virgin hair should be not be treated carefully, only that relaxed already has a strike against it.

In my opinion either to blowdry or straighten by hot comb is not harmful. The important thing is keeping your hair healthy by washing and conditioning the hair regularly this helps keep moisture in the hair. In washing the water puts the moisture in and conditioning locks in that moisture. Use good protein products hair is mostly protein. Avoid products that contain things like alcohol they are drying to the hair. Read the directions on styling tools most will tell how far away to hold the blow dryer from your hair. Of course don`t hold the hot comb in the hair to long or the dryer in one spot too long.

In blowdrying let hair air dry for a while before using your dryer this avoids what`s call flash drying. Damp or slightly wet is O.K. but not dripping wet. There are a lot of thermal activated products on the market that are heat activated and help protect the hair from both blowdrying and hot irons. And don`t for get to read the directions.

Be sure not to get carried away with the use of these tools let the hair rest sometimes from such heat attacks. Atleat once a month or more it`s a good idea to have a few styles that require only wash, air dry, and pinning up or maybe a hat if hair is to short.

Hope this answered your question.

Gloria...you seem to give very good advice. My question to you is this.....I have very soft hair, and it is thick also. However...I cannot seem to use any type of relaxer, all the relaxers that I have tried have resulted in major hair shedding. It seems that pressing puts strain on the hair too, but it is much better than relaxing my hair. My hair is very fragile, and it sheds alot...my weaker points are in the very back of my head...the top is very strong. My question is....how can I promote healthy hair growth and prevent my hair from shedding so much and becoming so fragile? I do less as possible to my hair to prevent damage. I`m doing all that I can do but nothing seems to work. Help!
