QuoteReplyTopic: Need insight on growing hair out of relaxer!!!!!!!!!! Posted: March 29 2002 at 1:36pm
Aiight check this out. I went to a different hair salon then my usual 1 b/c they had a lower price. There were several things that seemed shaky. I asked the stylist to trim my ends(I get this done every 4 wks). She suggested that i SHOULD WAit until I get a touch up. I told her that I wont be getting 1 for a long time since Im giving my hair a break from all the chemicals. Then she said " well if u dont get a perm, your hair will fall out"
Now this is B.S. because I`ve gone without a perm for 7 mths now and I `ve noticed nothing unusual: no breakage, hair clumps, damage etc....
So today, my friend`s mother went to the same salon. She talked with the hair stylist and she supposedly remarked that my hair WILL fall out if I dont get a perm and that my scalp is deteriorating(I have a seasonal dandruff problem) because I use olive oil instead of hair grease and that I need a treatment or something.....
Like I said...people go a long time without relaxers. I`ve never witnessed any breakage in my hair. i take good care of it. I dont use hair greas because it clogs and it makes my hair heavy and weighs it down. I dont get relaxers too often because the chemicals are damagng...plus my hair grows faster the longer I wait in between touchups. Is it possible that my hair will break off, fall out, etc????????

If you continue to wash anc condition your hair; you will not have a problem.
Some beauticians tell you that nonsense because they want the money. It costs more to get your hair relaxed than washed and set.
I have a friend who has not had a relaxer for 2 years now. She lets her beautician wash and set her hair, including a deep condition and her hair is just fine. she also uses olive oil.
Everyone`s hair is different and only you know your hair. I know I can`t go too, long without a relaxer because my hair will definitely fall out.
Good Luck!!
P.S. Many people have seasonal dandruff and it goes away. You can try using head and shoulders and Top Brass.

Well, I think it is true that your hair will experience some breakage if you don`t get regular touchups. When your hair is two different textures, thick at the roots and straight at the ends, it can snag when you comb over your hair. I usually touch up my 4a type hair every 8 weeks and get a trim as well. I also use olive oil for my hair. I don`t grease my scalp because you are clogging your scalp pores. Olive oil is very moisturizing. I use carrot oil for my ends because it is a little more heavier and it keeps my ends moisturized. The only way to grow out a relaxer is to cut the relaxed hair. If you get regular trims eventually the relaxed ends will disappear. I have also used Motions CPR shampoo and it does something to the texture of your hair. Its almost like it reverts it back to its natural state. I had a relaxer a 2 1/2 weeks ago and I used the CPR and my hair is curly at the roots and it seems as if I need another touhup. I also used it on my niece`s hair and it totally washed out her relaxer. Its true. So you should try it if you are really looking to get rid of your relaxer. HTH
