Fastening the ends of Natural Hair in a braided hair extension

I recently tried to braid extensions into my daughter`s naturally curly hair. While the braid held well, the ends POKED out of the braid giving a "sloppy" look to the first 3 inches from the scalp.
If any one knows how to fasten, or a good resource please let me know. Thanks. slpapequash@hotmail.com
