QuoteReplyTopic: What is long, average hair lenght of the black woman Posted: September 16 2002 at 4:31pm
Most of us african think that shoulder length is average, Some will say that beyone shoulder length is geting pretty long. I just wanted to know what is long for us. Thanks, this will be a fun topic.
you were mentioning something about BEYONCE and shoulder length hair.LOL My eyes are playing tricks this evening.
Well to answer your question i believe that Black women can and have grown their hair just as long as white women. my mother and her sisters all have hair way past their shoulders. and they aren`t mixed with any other race.
I think back in the day we were able to grow our hair quicker and easier because we didnt have all these perms and quick grow sceems and scams and we used alot more home made/natural things on our hair . and most importantly we werent always putting our hands in our heads.

My mom hair could stop at her shoulder blade, and one of her sisters hair stop in the middle of her neck! My mom was just one of the lucky pop up hair gene if you want to say that.
The average hair growth for black women depends on a lot of things, the type of hair they have whether they are taking supplements or not, their age factor. I would say most black women would say about shoulder length and beyond about bra strap length. But even those whose hair would only grow to nape length, once it is stretched out, it is probably nearer shoulder length, it depends on your curl pattern of your hair. My daugther and my mother born have a looser curl pattern and their hair grows past their shoulders to the middle of their back. I could never get my hair past my nape, when it was relaxed it would grow up to the nape of my neck. Even when I cut it and it was natural for 18 months to two years, it grow to the nape of my neck, but when my mom pressed out my hair, it was past my shoulders. Now my hair has been natural since February, and it is always past the neck of my neck when stretched out, it is to the base of my neck and it is growing very fast, I am 41, I exercise four times a week, plus I take supplements, but the key I feel, is that I rinse my hair every day and that has certainly made a difference. I only colour my hair now. I eat a more vegetable based diet, only I do eat chicken, turkey and fish, I eat a lot of vegetables and drink a lot of water and I think that makes a lot of difference. Black women can achieve very long lengths, even though their hair look shoulder lengths or is up to bra length, in the natural state, once the hair is stretched, their hair is waist length and beyond. People who have their hair in locks achieve waist length, knee length, and ankle length, the old hair is not shed like ordinary hair. Black hair is very similar to a plant, it needs to be moisturised every day, and you will see great lengths and it needs to be rinsed daily with distilled or boiled water if the water is not so.
Hi, Generally African American women have shorter hair than white women because that is how nature made them-Europeans have more body hair and hair on their head because their bodies have adapted to cooler weather, same thing as they are light skinned because there isn`t much sun in Europe so they don`t need that protection. african American women have less body hair & hair on there heads because in warm climates hair isn`t as necessary. However, all races can grow out their hair long. My friend is african american and her hair is longer than mine! (mine is bra strap, her`s is a bit more). If you have a healthy diet & exercise plus take good care of your hair it will grow long.Hope that helps.
Actually cata you are only partially correct. It APPEARS that the majority of black people have shorter hair, but I bet if you were to stretch one of the coils of a girl with a BAA ( Big A$$ Afro ) that was free of chemicals ( no offence to the "permies" ) her coil would stretch to the middle of her back easily. Black hair was made to shrink, condense, and to protect. Just because it looks shorter doesn`t necessarily mean it is.
Nothing takes out our hair other than use. We choose what to put onto your hair and if your learned taught what`s good and bad for our hair, how will it ever grow long?

Ah, Sookie, nah!
God even knows how many hairs are on your head. Matthew 6:10
Personally, i think that black woman can grow there hair just as long as white can, i think with us it just requires alittle more attention for our hair also we have to watch the chemicals heat and so on that we put in our hair.

I think anything is possible when it comes to African-American hair. It is only a matter of care and patience with hair. This lady`s hair isn`t knee-length (yet), but she has some really long hair and she is black.
My hair is 21 inches I`m black. I know for sure black women can grow hair like Indians if they take of their hair. So many of my family members have waist length and even butt length hair but it`s natural and very health.
Black women just like another other race women can grow hair as long as they want to, they just have to watch the chemicals and other things, and learn the proper way to care for there hair. There is no such thing is they cant grow hair.
