Please forgive my many questions. I just found this long hair board and have so many thoughts. I hope you all don`t mind.

So how long is long hair really? My stylist told me it is not "long" until it is bra length. However, my friends say that long is really shoulder length or longer. Then someone else said that long is waist length. My head is spinning.

Anythoughts?

Long hair is indeed in the eye of the be-holder, what ever you consider to be long hair might not be what other people consider to be long hair.

I agree, a friend I hadn`t seen in while told me that her hair had gotten really long. When I met her for lunch the next day it was just past her shoulders, which to me is still short. My hair is just above my waist and it just starting to feel long. Obviously two different opinions on what length long hair is.

I think any hair that is waistlength or longer is Really Long.

Bra strap length is long but not out of the ordinary

A fun question! I`ve thought about it, and would say that arbitrary as this is, in the context
of OUR times, short hair on a woman is shorter than chin length or so, medium hair is chin-
length to a bit more than collar length, medium-longish hair is from just above the shoulders
to a little over the shoulders, moderately really long hair is from about the bottom of the
shoulder blade to the bra strap, longer really long hair is from the small of your back down
to elbows or so, and very long hair anything longer.

I agree with what Duke says. I think just below shoulder length can be classified as long hair and anything bra strap length or longer can be classified as very long hair. Simplistic, but it works for me! LOL!

i consider waist length hair long.my hair`s about 6 inches past my shoulders & i consider it really short!

Mine is between waist and tailbone, and I am now only beginning to consider it long. I think really long hair is mid-thigh or better.

I`d vote for hair long enough to sit on, wiast to below the tail, as bing very long, bra strap level to waist is long, shoulders to bra strap is medium, shorter is short. .

I imine is still short, although I`m aiming for long to very long.

Just having fun...I think REALLY long hair is when you have to worry about it going down the shower drain while you are standing in the shower.

i personally consider middle off ur neck and up is Short, Middle of ur meck to just above bra strap is Meduim, Bra strap to middle of ur back is Long and anything from the middle of ur back to longer is really Long!! but thatys just my oppinion!!

To me, short hair is shoulder-length and up, medium is bra-strap, long is past the waist, and really long is past the hips. My hair is currently between long and really long. I have to laugh when I buy styling magazines that promise to show styles for "long" hair, but all of the hair is shoulder-length.

well mine is almost to my knees... and its not long enough....

but usually anything past shoulders is considered long

I was just thinking, if long hair is supposed to be below bra length, how come everytime I`ve looked through a hairstyle magazine they`ve always considered long hair to be somewhere around the shoulders? It must be because they live in a different world where hair never gets below the bra.

The same goes for a lot of stylists.

Becuase shorter hair is "fashionable" so the "fashion" equivillent of long hair is always going to be shorter. I hate fashion.

Hey Natalie,

My hair is 41 inches long. I think any hair that is waistlenght or longer is really long hair. I`ve always wanted long hair and now I`ve it I`m so happy with it.
I started to let my hair grow in 1994 When you`re happy you feel confident. I agree with Dorothy that long hair makes you feel and look younger.
