I usually just use the flat iron after washing and conditioning my hair. I use a small amount of pressing oil and c. milk with it.

Some carrot oil on the ends if it feels dry; some Biosilk Heat Therapy used sparingly throughout if it feels oily.

Supersugar,

Do you use solid, creme or liquid carrot oil for your dry ends and what is the brand?

'Hollywood Beauty' Liquid Carrot Oil. It comes in a small bottle and you can find it in any WalMart.

I use it because it's completely suitable on its own, unlike another brand of carrot oil I bought in an eight-ounce bottle that was meant to be used in conjunction with another product.

Before you flat iron your hair use a hair product that contains silicones[silicones end with the word cone] which protects hair from heat by sealing and smoothing hair's cuticles layers.Overuse of silicones causes buildup[residue].

Deebee4, what great news. I just ordered some Beyond the Zone heat protectant...I'm not sure how it will work, but your post has given me hope that I will be able to achieve a straight, sleek look in no time now!

But some questions for everyone who flat irons -- how do you clean your flat iron? I have buildup of stuff along the edges of my flat iron...I'm not sure how to get it off without damaging it. i tried wetting a napkin and going to work on it, but that didn't work. Do I need to buy something special to clean the plates? Thanks.

Canopy44, where did you order Beyond the Zone heat protectant? I don't have a Sally's where I live so I have to order most of my hair products. I use a wet rag on my warm flat iron to clean it. I've heard of people using alcohol.

layla, i get mine from ebay.com. i just purchased a bottle of beyond the zone for only about $7, i believe (that includes shipping). considering that it usually cost $5.99 without tax at the Sally's nearest to me (and it's not even close at all), I'd say that's a good deal. There are usually a few different types of heat serums up for grabs... I originally going to buy some biosilk, but stumbled on this instead.
