So many times I have heard that using non african american products on your hair will cause it to "go back" if its relaxed, yet i see many people on the site reccomending products like this for the treatment of damaged hair. Why?

There is nothing wrong with using other hair products. I was raised on hair products that were not located in the "ethnic isle", till this day I still don't care about that isle. Cleaning hair is cleaning hair no matter who it belong to and my hair has been healthy with my regimen. Anyways, your hair can not revert if it has been chemically relaxed, that is a permanent and the only way you can get it removed is by cutting it.
I think it's b/c other products (not specifically made for African American hair) strip the hair of it's natural oils. They are also cheap and contain products that aren't good for MY hair. Especially Suave, White Rain, VO5 and all those. Other people on here seem to like those products though, but they dry my hair out and makes it hard. I have 3a/ 3b hair that is usually silky and shiny and those products make my hair look and feel damaged. Therefore, I use Motions, Creme of Nature, and products of that nature...but one product that's not neccessarily for African Americans that I do like is Dove b/c of the extra moisture it contains.
