QuoteReplyTopic: What will help, getting desperate Posted: February 05 2005 at 9:14am
My hair is in bad shape. I don't know if it is the relaxer my new hairdresser has been using on my hair or the heating irons, but I now have a lot of breakage and it is thinnning (I posted about the thinning in an earlier post Jan 29th).
I have told her no more heat. I went to her yesterday and we did a moisture condition and roller set under the dryer and I told her that will be what I want when I come to her no heating irons. I only go to her every 2 weeks. I need to get my hair back on track!
I ONLY ROLLERSET at home.
I am wondering should I try some braided extensions to give it a break for awhile? or will that make it worse?
I can't just pull it back in a bun or anything because my sides are too thin.
Should I just continue this new regime (see below) and see how it goes?
I am so upset about the state of my hair which was full and growing well before I went to her. I do believe the heating irons she used and MAYBE the type of relaxer has done this.
She is open and willing to any changes I want. ADVICE PLSE!!!!
I am now due for another touch-up and I will have to make sure she uses a mild relaxer on my hair. I gewt touch-ups every 6-7 weeks.
Here is what I have started doing myself (posted earlier).
condition washs with Aussie moisture conditioner then put Biotene H-24 cream conditioner Every 2nd week Nioxin wash & condtioning Motions after shampoo moisture plus Elasta QP Intense Protectiv edge (on hairline) protective Anti-breakage strengthening ORS Carrort Oil on ends Mizani Rose/BB Castor Oil (alternate with these)
MIxture of Rosemary Essential oil/Jojobo Oil/CasterOil/Tea Tree Oil (massage and leave in for 30 min) once a week.
Daily take the following: GNC Nourishair Prenatal Vit Evening primrose Biotin 1 tbs Black Strap molassas Natural Essence Silica MSM Flaxseed Oil Fiish oil Cod Liver oil
To cmesweet, I will also check out the site you recommended longhaircare, yes I do deep conditioning.Thks
I just started the regime I list above last week so maybe I need to give it time.
i think your new regimine and your vitamins and supplements looks good. Make sure to drink at least 64 fluid oz. of water. Leave the heat alone and see how it goes for 4 weeks. If all is well, continue your regimine, if not tweak it as necessary. If no improvement after 4 weeks and tweaking your regimine is not working-try seeing a dermatologist. i wouldn't advise extensions for at least a year after you have the current problem under control. Hope this helps.
Me and you, your cousin and your momma too rollin on da strip on bow's
I know exactly how you fell. My hair was this way not to long ago also. Here is what I recommend. Yes, Get braid extensions for a while it will help your hair grow and get thicker just make sure who ever does them does not do the to tight or that will defeat the purpose of what you are trying to accomplish. Befor you get the braids give your hair a trim. You don't have to cut off ALL the damaged and thin hair at once but at least cut off about half and inch to and inch of it now. Also remeber not to leave the braids in for to long(max 2months)and remember to keep your braids MOISTERIZED that is the key. I hope that this helps you because I can tell you that it really did help me out alot. Good luck and keep the faith your hair will be back on track befor you know it.
I wouldn't recommend getting extensions if your hair is already weak and in some cases, thinning. You should wait longer to inbetween relaxers, if you feel you need them. Shaving it off would be a good idea, but if you are not willing to take that step, than you need to find other alternatives, and i do not believe the extensions is one of them.
*Also, everyone can look professional, no matter their hair type, relaxed or not relaxed.*
cmesweet - what I meant re looking professional and my hair being relaxed is that I personally have no clue how to do my hair if it is not relaxed.
I was not implying that anyone who does not relax their hair does not look professional & did not mean to offend anyone.
I would not know where to start in doing my hair otherwise and am open & looking for advice and suggestions. That is why I said I would not know how to maintain it if it was not relaxed because it has always been relaxed. I would not know where to start to style it and wear it for my job. I am looking for direction.

I think I might have an answer for your problem. My mother lives in another state from me and started to relax he own hair, it came out after she over processed it. After I saw what she had done to her hair I suggested she wear a integration for a while and not relax her hair. She agreed, so I got what she needed and cornrolled her hair without any tention then I sewed the integration on to her hair lightly. she loved the look that I created for her. It has been two and a half years and she has let all the relaxer grow out of her hair and she is still wearing the integration. Everytime I would see her it would be time to due the maintanence which is every 3 months. We would take is off, shampoo and conditon her hair, and trim the ends every 3 months, but in between time she would shampoo and conditon at home using the nioxion kit and the follicle booster for her edges. she now has a beautiful head of natural hair that can be pressed or relaxed, but she has not chosen to due either because she is 53 and does not want to over process her hair again using relaxer and coloring every month to cover the gray. She has some options but she has decided that she like the convinience of the integration.
Some people prefer to mix their hair in with the integration because it has holes through out which will allow your hair and scalp to breath. Although my mother wears braids underneath she is still able to shampoo, condition, and use the follicle booster. Now she has a very strong head of hair. and the follicle booster grew all her edges back.
I wish you much luck on what ever you decide to do.

It's ok you did not offend me, but some people do feel that way about our hair and I just wanted to reinforce the facts. There are sites that are helpful with natural hair care in case that is the direction that you would like to go in. Such as, www.nappturality.com www.motowngirl.com, wwww.roshini.net Either way you are ok with me. You might want to look at the site www.longhaircareforum. com for information people with all hair types, natural and relaxed are on there as well.
