Hope you will all share your long hair care steps:
Here is mine currently for my waist length hair:
1. Carefully brush out all tangles before shampooing with an Ambassador boar`s head brush. Do a pre-conditioning oil treatment if hair is super dry. 2. Wash hair every day with Nature`s Gate Chamomile or NG Herbal or ARTec Smoothing Shampoo or PhytoJojoba. 3. Follow with rinse-out conditioner. My current favs include Nature`s Gate Chamomile & ARTec Smoothing. 4. Always follow conditioning with a cool/cold water rinse for shine. Brrrrrr but worth it. 5. Wrap my hair in a super absorbant towel to suck all the excess waters. Gently squeeze out all excess water. 6. Add a leave-in conditioner such as Phyto 7 or Joico or ARTec Kiwi. 7. Comb out tangles with a Battalia wide-tooth comb. 8. Blow dry on days when I have a special event to attend or else air dry completely with hair wrapped up in claw clip. Blow dry only until all moisture is removed. 9. Deep condition 1-2x a week w/ olive or almond oil. For lazy times condition w/ PhytoCitrus or ARTec Moisture Pak. 10. Roll hair up in rag rollers for special events and sleep on them overnite. Make my own rollers from old flannel PJs. 11. Use tiny bit of jojoba oil to smooth frizzies when necessary. 12. Get ends trimmed every 12 weeks & trim on my own the rest of the time. 13. Take B vitamins, EFAs and Viviscal. 14. Hang out at HairBoutique.com and THLS messageboards to get inspiration for long hair. 15. Visit a long hair expert for special updos and braids.
Thanks for the info. I will start using some of these tips from now on, especialy once my gets long again. Don`t ever cut your hair. I have regretted it ever since I cut my hair. I hope you keep on giving good advise.
I have long hair that is curly and it needs some work because I don`t trim the ends enough and know that I need to. Right now I am experiementing with different shampoos to help with the dryness. I have found good results with Aveda Shampure and I like Nature`s Gate Chamomile and Chamomile conditioner. However, I also like the NG Biotin shampoo.
I use a rinse out and a leave-in conditioner all the time because my hair is so dry and gets crunchy if I don`t. I let me hair air dry as much as possible and I only use a blow dry for my bangs and for the underneath to remove as much of the moisture as I can.
I deep condition with extra virgin olive oil every weekend and on special occasions I will spring for Joico K-Pak or some other commerical brand.
Great topic. Enjoy hearing what others do for their hair.
comb out tangles before shampooing. i generally wash my hair in the shower using mastey products- traite shampoo, moisturee conditioner and frehair rinse. i apply the traite to top of my hair and the moisturee to the bottom, shampooing and conditioning at once. this also protects my length as the shampoo is washed out. then i use the rinse and rinse it out. follow with a cool water rinse, wrap my hair up in a towel and then comb it out. i often put it up in a bun to dry, but sometimes leave it down.
every second day, i scalp wash only. this protects my length but my hair is still clean.
once a week, i deep condition using a combination of oil (grapeseed, safflower or avocado) and fudge dynamite reconstructor. i apply this liberally through my hair, braid it and leave it overnight.
after i`ve combed out after a full wash each time, i apply a big blob of pure aloe vera gel to my hair, and a little avocado oil. i find this protects it and stops it from drying out.
sometimes i substitute the mastey with natio`s moisturising shampoo and botanical conditioner. i also like nature`s organics products (i think you can only get these in australia right now).
