WOW,  Cool new board and it has SPELL CHECK!!! YEAH!!!!  I wrote to the owner about me finding little white balls in my hair samples and were they lice eggs?  This is what she wrote back to me...

Kimberly:

Thank you for your email. The tiny balls that you see is not lice eggs. We disinfect, cleanse and condition all of our hair to ensure that you receive steralized hair. What you see is dust balls. Please go to www.beautifulindianhair. to place your order. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Lola Noble

Uhhh, what do you guys think?  They did not look like dust balls to me???

Kimbearly, Im sure you know the difference between nits and dust balls.....Id stay away from that seller if they cant even be honest enough to admit that it could have been nits that you found.

Yup. Sounds shady to me, too.

Maybe SAS can suggest some way to test the hair for sure, to confirm that it's lice (that is, if you haven't thrown it away, which I assume you have), but like Sherrie said, I don't think you'd be confusing dust balls with lice. Why would there be dust balls on the hair anyway?

Save a Stray posted this link on the original thread:
http://www.headlice.org/faq/notnit.htm
It should ease your fears about lice eggs and nits and whatnot. It does address the white balls as well - they're a kind of skin and oil dust.
I was glad to know that the white balls were not lice eggs especially since they were all over my dining room table. It also says that nits are brown & the size and shape of a sesame seed and can't live over 48 hours off of someone's head.
It's a good website everyone should check out.

Well, it's a pity you threw the hair away Kimbearly.

I am very upfront about Indian hair and my findings but you
won’t find all sellers of Indian hair who will be that honest. They
don't want to admit that they know there is a possibility there is
still nits (lice eggs) in the hair. Not all sellers will take the time to
treat the hair and carefully pack it. I spend hours on the hair
and there's still a chance I may have missed something........I
strive for perfection, but nothing is perfect!!

The fact that she just brushes it off is a bad sign. As she well
knows she bought it straight from India and knows how it
comes. I would not buy from anyone that was at least not willing
to look into your claims and just say….. it’s dust balls!! Not a
good way to start off your business I'd say!!

Well, for one dust balls/lint comes off the hair very easily, with
your fingers or a brush.
Also, if the hair has been treated, shampooed, conditioned,
brushed and packaged ........there should be nothing on the hair
to begin with....not even dust balls/lint.

If the nits are still present nothing will take them off but a very
fine flea comb or by using your nail edges to pry them off all the
way down the hair shaft. You will never just brush the nits out of
the hair!! You have to treat the hair completely with a lice
treatment and go over and over the hair to remove lice or nits. I
have never see any living lice in the hair at all in any of my
shipments. I only find nits left behind…....which is the shell left
after the lice have hatched. Lice cannot survive longer than 24
hours off the human scalp. so when the hair is cut off the donor
it dies shortly afterwards.

The nits are mainly in clusters and they look very different from
dust balls/lint. The egg shells look like oval flakes, which vary in
color. I quite frankly find it very hard to believe you can mistake
the two. They are clearly very different.
Dust or lint will comes off the hair very easily with picking it off
or with brushing it. I sometimes get the hair delivered to me with
colored threads still in the hair and a few pieces of dust or lint. If
you cannot remove without prying it off with your nail edges
easily then it is most probably the shells of the nits, still left in it.
Which again can be removed with the lice treatment and a
small flea comb.

Remember………..
Lice are reddish brown wingless insects, they do not fly or
jump, ……they crawl.
Nits (lice eggs) are grayish white to a brownish color, always
oval shaped, and are glued at an angle at the side of the hair
shaft and is slightly smaller than a sesame seed. (flake like)

Nits can be confused sometimes with irregularly shaped
clumps of dandruff stuck to the hair shaft.

You girls don’t have to worry about live lice in Indian hair,
because by the time it is imported and delivered to the hair
buyer and then processed again, the lice cannot survive this
long away from the scalp. The nits (eggs) have been hatched
already and are harmless to you they just need to be removed
from the hair. You don’t have to throw away the hair, you’re not
going to catch anything. It just takes a little work to get them out
that’s all.

I know you don’t want to deal with any of that when buying hair
but you have to remember where it comes from, that goes for
any raw hair. Just know you won’t get lice from the hair!

Girls, you have me all paranoid now…..Sherrie & Amm ……did
you find any nits like this on the hair I sent you? I spent a
couple days on each of your samples and all were treated with
NiX, washed and conditioned 3 times and then packaged. Did
you girls go thoroughly through all the samples yet?

When I got my manniquin head in with my hairdressing pack when I started hairdressing, the tutors warned us that there might still be lice eggs in the hair and that if we came across them not to be alarmed because they weren't alive and they would wash out.  That was asian hair xx

There were no eggs, lice or nits on my hair sample from
beautifulindianhair.com. There were little white specks which actually
resembled dandruff but not enough to be a concern and I initially did not
see it until I looked at it a second time. I even had to take it outside
in the sunlight to see it.

Their hair was just butt ugly, imo. It was old looking and after my initial
inspection, I came back from work the next night and indeed the hair
stunk to high heaven, like a chemical. I did not keep it either and tossed
it in the garbage.

SAS, the difference between you and these other sellers is that you have
integrity. Your hair is the cadillac version. It's shiny, clean, and the
fragrance is outstanding. There wasn't a problem at all with what you
sent. And you know I wouldn't give it a thumbs up if I didn't think it
deserved it.

Nobody can get me to buy indian hair anymore. After the Bliss incident
and then all those creepy hyena pics of women getting their hair lopped
off and then I think of the hygeine and nutrition of these third world
donors... ::yeech shudder::

I will only have two types of hair now; glamourhair and synth. That's it.

SAS, I did find a few little nits, and in the darker shedes of hair the do appear white or lighter in color. But it was only a couple and only on one of the samples. But you were very upfront with me and said it may be possible, so it wasnt a big shock to me to find it.

And I agree with what Amm said about this hair, I thought it was absolutely beautiful hair. You've put my mind at ease about all the lice/nit concerns that I had. At first it freaked me out a little, but you've explained the process very well and I am not as concerned anymore that 'something living' could still be in the hair or that some of those nits could 'hatch'. I realize now that thats not possible and it doesn't freak me out anymore!

I wish the hair that you buy could be purchased in the lighter colors SAS, because I wouldnt hesitate to buy it at all. It is some of the most beautiful hair that Ive ever seen!

Sherrie~ Thank you for your honesty and I am terribly sorry you
found a few nits. I can honesly say I worked so hard on that hair
and I am very dissapointed to hear this after what I go through.
I mailed out the packages feeling so good about the hair.

I was waiting to have the hair tested as it is from a new supplier.
The hair is lovely but it needs a lot of work. Well I tried my best,
that's all I can say. I have 120+ ponytails sitting in my house
right now. I have my work cut out here. I 'm so sorry
Sherrie.......I'm so bummed now.

SAS I didnt mean to bum you out...I feel bad now. I only found a couple and it was only in 1 sample. Really for the quality of hair that you can provide I think with your honesty and being up front about it, it is worth the trade off for the possibility of finding a nit. It may put off some people, but for those of us who know how hard it is to find really good hair, we know the real deal. The hair that you sent to me is even better than than Great Lengths hair in my opinion. So far I havent seen any hair that tops the samples in quality that you sent me. Honestly, the hair the you get is the bomb. Any samples that I send to you from John or any hair from these other companies that weve been gathering information, is not going to be NEAR the quality of what you sent to me.

Sas,  Thank you so much for your detailed information.  I am so new at this hair thing so I was a bit freaked when I saw the white balls.  Lice or dust balls it went in the trash because the hair was gross.  If I can find it (not sure if it is ready for this garbage or the last) I will send it to you so you can check it out.  Since I have read so many great things about your hair are you still willing to sell?  I would be willing to buy from you.

SAS - just so you know, the ponys that you sent are scheduled for an
install in mid April. The gal I'm doing wanted the FR from Glamour but it
really is too wavy for her so we're going to use what you sent. She's going
to take it in for coloring when she gets her own done and it'll be uplifted
to about 3 different shades of dark and light blondes. I'll be pretipping it
after that. I'm pretty excited to use it. It's some of the softest hair I have
right now.

I'll be taking photos, too. :)

Sherrie~Don’t feel bad…….I really appreciate your honesty.
That is why I sent it to Amm and yourself. I knew you would not
sugar coat anything and would be very honest about the hair. I
am just so bummed to know, that after 2 days working on each
ponytail that these couple nits were still found. So I think I’m
more freaked out about all this than anyone. It’s like working
with a needle in a haystack for me. I will now have to
spend 3 days on a ponytail I guess instead of two.

Girls, I think these lengths may be too short for you all. I only
ordered the shorter lengths for layering which are in the 12 –
16” range. I was wary to buy the longer lengths I wanted
incase the hair was crap as it was a new supplier, and they
required a large minimum. (which has now doubled). Ideally I
would love to order the 28” lengths so I could cut off 3-4” so the
hair would look really awesome and for a fraction of the shop
prices. I have not treated anymore hair at this time, as I was just
sending out those treated samples for now to get feedback on
them. I can’t see me getting all through this hair anytime soon
as it is kitten season and my busiest time with ferals. I plan on
working on each bundle when I can and slowly getting through
all of it before I get my license. You can contact me privately if
you need more info.

Amm~That’s kewl…I’m glad you found someone to get the use
of it. Look forward to seeing the pics!!
