QuoteReplyTopic: Amla Berry, Mud, etc. Natural Shampoos Posted: March 20 2005 at 9:59am
I want to switch away from using discount store shampoos and start
using all-natural shampoos. I'm hoping that my somewhat sensitive skin
will do better, and that my scalp won't itch quite as much.
I have shoulder-length, uncolored, unpermed, brown hair. I tend not to
use conditioners much because my hair doesn't seem to need much
additional oil, and because conditioners tend to make my face break out.
I've been looking at Sierra Soap's amla berry shampoo (see
http://www.sierrasoap.com/catalog.html ). Has anyone else tried amla
berry shampoos?
I've also looked at Terressentials Pure Earth Hair Wash, but I
have some reservations. To wit: since there is no foaming and my hair
is brown anyway, I'm not sure that I will know where I've coated; the
whole detox time from your old shampoo sounds a little strange, plus
the fact that they suggest buying a big bottle in order to get through
the detox time means more of a financial commitment than just getting a
little sample bottle. Anyway, has anybody else tried it and had good
success?
I've also looked at some of the shampoos that are made from saponified
olive oil. I'm a little concerned that they would be too oily for me.
(Once again, any comments?)
I've looked at lye shampoos, but I don't know if they would be too
harsh. For some reason, I hear the word lye and think hard on the
skin.......
To anybody who gets through this rambling post and comments, thanks in advance!

I have never used amla berry shampoos. Can't advise you on that.
I think one factor to consider is the strength of the formulation you
choose, no matter what that is. That's where dilution will help
your skin to avoid an overdose of any strong chemical.
I have used several different shampoos with (or based on) coconut or
olive oils, or jojoba, and found them all to be good at moisturizing
the hair.
