Hello, I'm a cosmetologist looking to make more money and I think that learning more hair extension techniques would really really help. I would like to know from the opinions of any cosmetologists on here and customers of hair extensions what they feel the best system is. I was on the hairlocs bandwagon until I read all the horrific stories about it on this website. I think I should
I'm not a stylist, but I post here a lot and have tried quite a
few different methods, and I would suggest that you begin by
reading the 101 link at the top of the page, which provides tutorials
for virtually every method.
I'm sure others will chime in here, but the best advice I can give you
is to be prepared to learn a few different methods. Which technique
works best depends so much on the kind of hair you're dealing with,
it's almost impossible to pinpoint a "best method." In fact, if
you'll check out the poll on the top of the page about favorite
methods, you'll see that there's quite a split and no clearly defined
favorite. Learning a few different methods--and how to work with
different hair, whether human or synth, bulk or wefted--will give you a
lot more options in finding the best solutions for your clients.
That said, I've heard a lot of good things about the Hairpolice class
that Rae mentioned (which teaches not only loose extensions, but
dreadperms and other stuff, with both human and synth) as well as the
Mark Barrington class, which Metalgirl can give you more information
about. For linking/loc methods and prebonded fusion, I personally don't
think a class is necessary--there are lots of good online demos; it
just takes a little practice.
Good luck! :)
