I've been working on my waves for about two years. I use to have braids but had a hard time trying to get a job in an office setting (White Collar job). You know how they judge brothers. They think you are a thug if you braided up. Man, I cut them braids off and already had a few waves, but none on the sides.
So I asked my lil brother how he hooked up his and he told me to use duke hair relaxer ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME, NOT AS LONG AS DIRECTED ON RELAXER. You don't want to fry your hair likeJamesBrown do you? After relaxing I use Pro Line hair moisturizer. Pro Line is a Black hair products company in Dallas (Black Owned). Some people use Pink Lotion.
I also use a small amount of Sportin Waves Max strength (Gold can) to do the dirty work. Some people use DAX. My hair is really coarse so I have to relax it at lease once every 1 1/2 months. When relaxing this much make sure you use a good nuetralizing shampoo to keep your hair from turning red from the relaxer. The kit always comes with this. I also wear a du rag everyday around the house and while sleep.
I been cutting my own hair since 12 years old. I cut my hair with a #1 clipper guard with the adjustable blade pushed all the way back to keep it not too short and not too long. #2 gaurd is ok if your hair is not too coarse.
Gotta keep it relaxed if your hair is coarse so it will lay down. The females love it but it's hard work when you got plenty other things to do than fool around with your hair.
Oh yea, BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH! I use a hard bristle wave brush with the long handle. Use a short handle if you want to carry it in your back pocket. That's My Way.
