Okay so the chances of me every using HH are slim but...
Why on earth would Russian hair last longer than Indian? I can
understand how i would be abetter texture match for many. But it
seems to me that if Russian hair is finer it would be more prone to
damage. That's all assuming an equal amount of processing on both
kinds of hair etc etc...
maybe I'm just dumb and Russian women's hair grows longer and heartier that Indian women's hair.

I can't imagine any caucasian hair lasting longer than Indian hair. I mean, look around at all us caucasian girls and how many butt-length ponytails do you see? None or maybe one a year. It's the same in Europe and Russia. Yet go to India or to any Indian part of a big city, and that's ALL you see - women wearing long, thick braids of hair. That's because caucasian hair rarely grows that long on anyone (as most of the women on this board already know) and the hair doesn't last as long in the environment exactly because it's so fine textured.
Although I don't doubt the existence of "Russian" hair, I do doubt the actual quantity available. There just aren't the numbers of Russians able to grow that amount of hair, although it is a country with many problems and I can see how people would easily be persuaded to sell their hair. So if it truly were Russian hair, it would be astronomically expensive just because it is so rare.
There are very fine grades of Indian hair - Indians are basically caucasian - along with the wirey, coarser, curlier grades. Being labeled "European" or "Italian" is usually referring to the grade of hair anyway, not the source.
Lately I've seen people selling Brazilian hair that's supposed to be so marvelous. But it's the same thing: Brazilians have everything from fine, silky thick hair to thick coarse and wirey. Also, Brazil and much of South America has a large poor population who can supply a good quantity and quality of hair so it probably truly IS Brazilian hair.
So what's the matter with fine textured, beautiful quality Indian hair? If it fulfilled my requirements and lasted a long time, it would not seem to matter where it actually came from. As I have said before, I have Indian hair from my very first extensions in 1990 and it's STILL useable and silky! I've trimmed the ends of splits over the years and the weft is shot, but there is still a good 12" of useable, beautiful length and its 15 ys old.
Good luck, girls, on your quest for the Holy Grail of Russian hair!!
Yeah, I think Indian hair can be wonderful, too, and in a lot of ways,
it makes sense to use tougher, stronger hair for extensions. If you
were even able to get some virgin Russian, I can't imagine you'd want
to lighten it or treat it in any way, since it would really shorten the
hair's life and damage your investment, which means it'd better be a
perfect match from the get-go.
The fact is, I seriously doubt that any individual DIYer or
extensionist is going to hook up a beneficial, long-term,
cost-effective relationship with a reputable Siberian or Ukrainian hair
dealer. It may be possible for a large company that can buy
consistently in bulk, but even with the major hair companies, you
hardly see any of them offering real Russian hair, and I think we can
assume there's a reason for that. If the hair's supposed to last a long
time (say, a year or more), you'd presumably need to order only 8
ounces of hair once a year, and I doubt any Rusian suppliers would even
deal with that sort of order. I also think you'd be taking an enormous
risk even trying to procure Russian hair--there are a lot of Websites
that claim to offer hair direct from Russia, but AFAIK, they're
untested and pricey; they all look like "pop-up" sellers to me.
