I've been looking for a hairstyle for over 2 years. I can't seem to find anything that looks good on me. I've researched, studied, and TRIED different styles, but nothing looks good on me :( I've purchased several of those virtual makeover things...try-on hairstyles.
Since having a baby 2 years ago, my body and my hair have changed. I used to be so pretty and photogenic. Now I look in the mirror or at a picture of myself and I get so depressed. I believe that when I look good, I feel good. Since I don't think I look good, I therefore don't feel too good most of the time.
Can someone suggest a style for me? Face shape...well I'm not sure exactly what my shape is. On one hand, I do NOT want to lengthen my face...as it's long enough already. Oblong/Rectangle used to be the shape I'd call it. HOWEVER, since gaining a little bit of baby weight :), I see my face as wide. So WIDENING it is not what I want to do. If anything I want it to look smaller all around! I like the way my hair/face looks when my hair is behind my ears or away from my face. But I don't really know what looks good anymore.
I welcome ANY and ALL suggestions...with the exception of shaving it all off and buying a wig. My husband has already suggested that (LOL) He's so sick of all my hair worries. He doesn't really care what I do with my hair (yea he's a lot of help)
Here is a recent picture of me. I took it myself with my digital camera. Please pardon all the "scraggledy" hairs...I'm majorly overprocessed here. My Picture
I need/want a makeover SO BAD!!

You are still pretty and photogenic! I was expecting much, much worse when opening your picture! But I understand wanting a change, I think most everyone feels the way you do at one time or another. I think a few natural-looking highlights might help, I wouldn't do anything drastic. Also I think if you grew your bangs out a little and swept them to the side and added some layers around your face it would give you a more updated look. And if you still feel like you need a makeover you can always get a quick one at the cosmetics counter at the mall. I'm no professional, but I don't think you look bad now! But I totally understand the whole feel-how-you-look thing, I'm the same way! And remember, you are your own worst critic so don't get too down on yourself. Good luck finding a new look!

That is one of the better pictures of me...should I post another? LOL I'm kind of thinking of sticking with that style. I've just recently started pulling my hair back in clips (like in the picture, part of my hair is pulled back), and I think it makes my face look slimmer.
Here's another pic...this one with my hair all down. I look larger....and I think the hairstyle is partly to blame.
I think you and your style look great, Rushell. I like the bangs and length. DH is right, I think. Stop fretting! If anything, I'd suggest going for mid-back, but I *am* usually partial to long hair! (lol) Good luck, Bob

The pictures were so huge it was really hard to visualize without photoshopping them.
I think you've got a couple of problems here. First, you have nice hair, but you've got a between length that isn't doing anything for you. You'd look better if you grew your hair out longer or cut it shorter.
There's nothing wrong with your face at all, it's a perfectly nice face, and would go with most hairstyles. The hairstyle is a bit dated, though, and because of that it makes you look older. The fine bangs cut straight across and the hair pulled straight back and teased (or allowed to be) a little puffy on top aren't doing anything for you.
I suggest that you start with a center part or one that is slightly off to the side. The bangs should be thicker, tapering at the ends, and should be encouraged to sweep forwards and to the sides, not back. Layers and just a little color would be nice, too.
Either that, or you could grow out your bangs and grow your hair down to your shoulders or beyond. Classic long hair would look good on you, too.

Here's a couple more pics of the way it WAS...oh why do we have to get OLD???
This one is from about 10 years ago LOL Please forgive the quality...and I don't think the hair shows up very good anyway...but I tried to make it a little better. It's an old picture. The Good Ole Me
And this...about a year before I got pregnant...so make this one about 3 years ago. Yes I tried to go blonde again after having my baby...even went to the stylist who originally did this several times. She didn't seem to understand I guess, because we kept ending up with red. After 3 different stylists, I gave up. Blonde Rush
And that's all the pictures I have. yes, I'm very partial to long hair. I used to look good with longer hair. I'm not so sure now.

Thank you Katherine :) I just noticed your post...I'm here posting more pictures! LOL Can you direct me (or do you have any) pictures that's like the style you're referring to? It's kind of hard for me to visualize what you mean, far as the bangs I guess?
I may just let it grow. I've always longed for hair down to my waist. Is that crazy for a 33 year old? haha All I know is every time I cut it shorter than shoulder length, I hate it.
Thanks again!!

If what you really want to do is grow your hair long, all you have to do is not cut it! How can 33 be too old to grow long hair? I'm 49 and my hair will be down to the bottom of my butt by Christmas. Visit the long hair board for care and style ideas.

Rushtx10 you are being very hard on yourself. After looking at the pics I think being blond worked for you.If you prefer long hair you may want to be careful that a stylist doesn't hack it short without you want them to

Oh I LOVED my hair that color, but like I said, after I had my baby, I could never reproduce it. First I got red/auburn. I kept thinking, this is what my stylist calls blonde??? Well then...changed stylist, got a good color but a VERY high price tag. (You get what you pay for I guess), changed stylists again...got very MULTI colored blonde/red/brass...changed stylists AGAIN...and got YELLOW...very yellow/brassy. Never did I find that perfect natural blonde that I had in that picture. I agree...I LOVE It. But...with the high price of doing foils and never being satisfied...I decided I better stick with what I was born with...
I'm another one to chime in and say you look great to me! I agree
with eKatherine that your hairstyle looks a little out of date, but
personally I love the color (yes, you looked great blond too, but if
it's a pain, why bother? Your natural color is very nice).
If you always wanted long, ABSOLUTELY go for it! I am 30 and in
the process of growing mine too...to my knees, just to try it!
There are plenty of other women from 30 to over 50 on several long hair
boards on the net - (and I will be one too since try as I might to stop
it, I still seem to be getting older). You certainly would not be
the only one.

Hi Rush! I think you look better with the color you have now. I didn't like the blond too much. Your darker hair brings out your pretty (and, yes I said PRETTY) features. I love the picture eKatherine posted for you to try. I can understand if you're not bold enough to go there, since you are partial to long hair. But, I think it would look really really good on you. Although, you have to be happy with it too!
Goodluck!
**Hair type: 2a, which is wavy and fine.
**Color: Naturally dark brown, currently dyed reddish brown.
**Length: below shoulder length
