thats usually because it is pulled far too tight though. it should be tight, but not tight as to cause pain or soreness :) you should be fine, most people who have extensions installed are, theres just horror stories sometimes :S Xx
With weaves, it is possible that it can cause damage.
I wore a weave (4 rows and also a full weave for a while) for 5 years. I don't think it damaged my hair, but I have seen women that have gotten bald spots, 'traction alopecia' from wearing a weave.
Well..... I've been using sewn-in wefts for 15 years.... For the previous 5 yrs., I've been sewing in two rows myself. My L.A. stylist was kind enough to teach me how to do it. I can honestly say, when I take out the wefts, aside from the place where the corn row goes being shorter than the rest of my hair... my real hair is actually healthier, as I am not ditzing with it so much. Now on my sides I've been having Prostyles installed. They've been in only a few weeks, I'll let you know.....

hi, i had my hair in individual braids with jumbo braids. i had over 100 braids, and would re-do them every 4 weeks. after 4 yrs, when i finally removed them for good, my hairline...or WHAT hairline should i say- was SOoooo hacked- it is now just growing back in and i have inch long hair around my whole face! the braids DID get my own hair in way better shape, being stuck in braids for years, but it played quite a # on myhairline. i had all different colors, and super long...it did look awesome....also you just cant wash your head good, and sort of stinks after a bit lol. missy
I have pinchbraids and very thin, fine hair, and I've had no problems
with hairloss or damage from them. I think the method is very easy on
the hair. I have heard that with cornrows (tracks) there can be
hairloss, particularly over the long term, because of the tension it
puts on the hair. I don't think pinchbraids (or heat-seals, which are
also essentially a braided method) put nearly as much stress on the
hair as cornrows do, though. :)
I'm new to the whole fusion, microlink,shrinkie methods, but I can tell you what happened to me after having hair sewn in. It left me with bald patches! I have thin hair and always wanted thick wild hair so I started having the wefts sewn onto my own hair and it became thinner and then eventually caused the bald spots. I know that other women have had success with this method. I was just reading about the pinchbraiding technique on this forum, but it was suggested it's not for thin fine hair. Sure seems like there are enough methods out there for all different types of hair. I just keep reading, asking questions. This girls really know their stuff!!

I'm new to extensions, I have one row in only to enhance. I have a
braid with one welt sewn in. Is this REALLY the least damaging to
your own hair? What will my hair be like once my stylist undoes my
little cornrow? Will it be trashed? I just got it a couple of weeks ago.
But I think I'm gonna wear one row to enhance for the rest of my
life. My hair is fine and not very thick, this is awesome. WHAT
ABOUT MICRORINGS no glue???
