Hair breakage, do I cut and start over?

I have been growing my hair out since the summer of last year, it's now about three inches past my shoulders and it seems to be pretty healthy. My problem is that about a month ago I noticed my hair breaking at the nape of my neck and in the center back.  I started shampooing and conditioning twice a week instead of only once and deep conditioning once a month. I started treating the broken areas with protein and anti-breakage conditioners and I must admit that I haven't noticed any additional breakage, but now my hair seems really thin on one side in the back. Do I need to cut and start over again? Any suggestions? Please help I really don't want to cut my hair.

Thank you, I figured there was no way of getting around having to cut my hair. I think that I will get a cut style for the summer and I am sure that my hair will be back by the Fall.
