QuoteReplyTopic: sewn in weave Qs.... Posted: May 20 2005 at 10:32pm
Hello all i was thinking about getting in a sewn in weave but i
have a few questions before i get this done , if decide to at all ,
first i just wanted to know that i know that they braid your hair
across , my natural hair is about 5 inches below my shoulders
and i was just thinking could a whole braid go all the way to the
end or wouldnt there be extra hair (my natural hair) in the braid
left out? I also wanted to now what causes the hair breakage (if
any) from this? is it the tightness from the braid or the
scratching? i asked the lady and she said she does tight braids
and wel my hair is fine , so what problems could occur if i get
this done? thanks a bunch.....

I think Sherrie is the best person to address this, but to the best of my knowledge, for a weave, the stylist french braids about 1/4 inch of hair from the sides to the middle back of your hair then joins the braids together and ties them. Next they sew the weft onto the braid. If you have healthy hair and a good stylist this should cause minimal breakage or damage.
I think you have to accept a tiny, and I do mean tiny, amount of damage, but nothing a normal person with good hair should notice.
I think a sewn in weft is a good way to get started with extensions. It's pretty inexpensive, safe, painless, and best of all quick to install. Just be sure you get good hair. I believe you will notice crappy hair first and foremost.
Breakage will happen if the braid is way too tight, or if the weft is improperly placed. This will be avoided with good workmanship, so choose your stylist well, preferably someone who has done it at least 10 times before. I hope others who know more will chime in. Best Wishes.

Actually, my experience is with bonded wefts, but I know there are a few other ladies here that are knowledgeable of sewn in weaves. I dont think Id be much help in answering these questions so Ill let some of the experienced gals chime in on this!
I used to have this method done years ago. It hurt an awful lot and broke my hair. Plus it didn't feel real smooth, it was kinda bumpy. Only stayed in for a few weeks as my hair is slippery. But at least it didn't have that musty smell from the glue! Give it a wurl...it might be for you!

I had one a long time ago. I didn't like it at all. It was bulky, which in the summertime made it hot! It was itchy and somewhat noticeable. It also broke my hair. It IS really cheap to get done, and I can see why. Why don't you give pinchbraids a try?
