QuoteReplyTopic: Colorfix/ Redye Questions (pics) Posted: June 09 2005 at 11:52am
I have been doing reading on Colorfix and it looks like this will be
the right thing for me to do...I don't think I need to bleach because I
don't want to go lighter than natural (RIGHT????)
(I posted earlier...) But I have questions about that now!
This is what my hair looked like before...
My hair is naturally dark dishwater blonde and I have been
lightenining, darkening (never to this extreme) and highlighting it for
the past 12 years...
Before I did this---V---- my hair was dyed medium blonde with light blonde highlights...
The last was a bit more
mahogany than I wanted and blonde suits me better (I have very fair
skin and light eyes...)
I would like the end result to be a cool light brown and then
eventually add various shades of blonde highlights....similar to the
first picture, but cooler and with a darker base color...
Okay...Now...my questions!
1) How much is Colorfix approx...(just so as I have some idea...)?
2) Since my hair was dyed and highlighted blonde previous to
using the dark dye (I've done
only permanent dark brown shades
about 9 times in the past 9
months) what will end result most
likely be with the Colorfix?
3) After achieving this result with CF...How do I then get a cool
light/med.
brown shade?
Normally I use box colors from the store and
have never had any problems...I
have one now in the
shade I am going for...
After using the color fix can I just go ahead and use this boxed dye
as I normally would? Or is there more to the process....
and finally...(FINALLY!!!)
4) How long after doing the colorfix and dye would you recommend I wait to do the highlights?
My hair, though fine and thin, stands up well to all the crap I do to it and I have never had any problems with breakage...
Between this post and the other I come across as whack, but I am just
really nervous about having orange hair or (EEEEK!) having it all fall
out...
Are you sure you don't want to get this done at a salon?
You have dark brown now, and you want light brown that you can add
blonde highlights to right? I think a salon should be able to
lighten your hair from dark to light brown either using a highlift
color (though I'm not a pro so I could be wrong about that one) or by
using colorfix on you then dying it the right color without
mistake. Even if they don't typically use colorfix, if you bring
it with you they most likely will agree, and using box colors to cover
what you get after colorfixing is very risky. Colorfix will
likely give you orange or yellow hair (this is normal) and you would
need colors with certain bases to counter that and you can't tell that
on the boxed colors.

Susan, that is what I thought too, which is why I went to a salon to go from deep red to blonde and all she frigging did was put bleach on me.. she wrapped it in foil, and not even all of it.. so I have red streaks running through it. I'm so upset and don't know what to do.

Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to get a COOL light or medium
brown. Colorfix will lift you to orange or gold, but there will
likely be a lot of warmth left. You'd probably have to colorfix
to orange, bleach to yellow, and then color with a violet-ash
brown. You'd need to get the dye from a beauty supply store, not
the drugstore. That is a lot of processing and is therefore
risky. You're probably best off going to a salon. It's not
impossible to do at home, but the likelyhood of really screwing up your
hair is high.
