QuoteReplyTopic: From Black to Blonde Posted: June 28 2005 at 1:53pm
My hair color is naturally blonde but for years I have been dying it. I've been through many hair crisis and I don't want it to happen again. Right now my hair is black and I have about an inch of roots coming in. My hair grows fast so I am tired of having to dye my roots so often. I want to dye my hair a dirty blonde and just let it grow out. The problem is I don't know how to do this.
I go to a proffessional but she doesn't work in a boutique or anything. We aren't sure what to do. I don't want to bleach my hair because I have done that 2 or 3 times before and it made my hair a wreck, a lot of it broke off. I was wondering if I were to use a color stripper if it would make my hair a light color so I could then dye it dirty blonde. Please help!

You should check w/ the stylist you go to if she has colofix. Have you been using permanent to go darker? If so, you would probably have to use colorfix maybe twice to strip the dark color. At this point ur hair wil probably turn orange, by then she should proceed w/ coloring it a dark asg blonde if it is orange to cancel it out. I hope this makes sense. You might need to use a higher volume developer too, just to prevent the new color from coming out too dark.

Well last night my stylist used a color stripper on my hair, I don't remember the brand it was like Willa something. Now my roots are platinum, the top on my hair is a medium pink/orange, and the bottom of my hair is a dark red. Any suggestions on what to do next?

I understand she's your friend and all, but gee whiz.
Color strippers are not meant to be used on virgin hair, which is why you ended up with platinum roots. It sounds like she used one of the harsher bleach-based products.
Possibly you could get some colorfix and try to strip some more color off the darker sections. Then you'll still need to tone it.
Maybe you could find a colorist who specializes in fixing mistakes. At this point I think you may need to settle for a multishade highlighted look.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

With color stripper's the orangey colors are to be expected. next she was supposed to maybe bleach it a little and then use an ash based blonde color to match what ur original color was. I'm a little surprised that ur hairdresser is unsure of wht to do at this point! Anyway i hope this is of some help!

the only problem with an ash based blonde is that last time she tried that my hair turned completely gray. and last night she used ash based blonde in my sister's hair to counteract the orange/red and her hair got a little gray ontop

my ordeal is done and over with. my hair is now a brown/blonde/copper color. i swear i will never go to that lady again. she also decided she needed to cut my hair, or atleast some of it. so now i am forced to go get my hair cut tomorrow because of the hack job she did. oh well.
