I am treating my short hair as though it were already long to keep it healthy, promote growth, and develop good habits :-)  Well today I blew it dry using my new ION hair dryer on high flow, cool heat...took longer to dry, but my hair felt fine and it didn't suffer any damage...how cool is that!  Just wanted to share my new find...I bought it at Sally's...they had two models, but of course the more expensive one had the cool air setting and that is the one I bought.

I have an ion hair dryer, but I honestly can't tell the difference between it and normal blow-drying. I'm glad you had better luck.  Does anyone else have any comments on this topic? Do ion hair dryers really prevent heat damage?

Yes, I think it's the cool setting.  I bought a Wigo hair dryer last year and I LOVE it.  It is like using a high powered fan on my hair.  They cost around $80.00, but I got mine when it was half off and used a coupon for $20.00 off so mine only cost as much as the average hairdryer ($20.00)
I also use a diffuser and I wait about a half hour before I dry so that my hair doesn't dry too fast.
