Dear Girls

i have been surfing this wonderful site for months now . and i must say i am really impressed of you all. you really managed to make a black woman dream come true to have hair that looks nice ... but in my case i can't really follow any of these instructions . i live in japan at the moment , i can't seem to find the products that i seek ... i don't even know where to start i am even getting depressed ... my hair is long and thick , that is good . but it is lifeless , feel coarse and even with a relxer ( i had to apply it for my self) it dosen't look good . i want to enjoy the fact that i can only wash my hair and dry it and still look good ... i think i should start from zero with this hair , please girls help your fellow girl here ...

Since you can't get specific products maybe you can look at ingredients and buy products based on the ingredients. You can also try getting natural butters and oils and make your own products. Here is a recipe as posted by antrunette on NaturallyCurly.com:

Cake Batter Butter (nice sub for Healthy Hair Butter - been tested!)
1/3 cup distilled water
1 teaspoon olive butter
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
2 tablespoons shea butter
5 teaspoons emulsifying wax
5 drops rosemary eo
7 drops lemongrass eo
15 drops coconut fragrance oil
3 drops ylang ylang eo

Put the oils/butters and beeswax in a bowl - melt in microwave for about a minute.
Stir to thoroughly mix.
Start mixing with mixer and slowly pour in the water as mixing. (not all at once!)
(the water and oil will be slighly separated at this point)
Put in refrigerator for 10 minutes.
Mix again with mixer.
Add essential oils and mix once more.
This will make about 6 oz of very thick hair butter that is not too greasy. It smells very herby like HHB and acts the same way.

I would guess you could substitute the oils and butters for whatever you have on hand and you could probably substitute the emulsifying wax with beeswax. And of course, you can scent any way you want.

Type: 3c/4a Natural
Current Length: 6"
Goal: Healthy, tip of nose /neck/shoulder length hair.

You can also try ordering many of these products online.  Some places like Ebay and others have worldwide/international shipping but it may cost you a little more to have them sent.

Check your pm's

Yeah, ordering online is a good idea as well as making it from scratch. My great aunt is from China although she is both black and asian. She use to make her own products from scratch like butters, oils, and herbs. Also, I know there are some Japanese people that have our grade of hair. I had a friend Japan that I went to high school with and I use to question her about that. There should be hair supply places there that house similar products. I will try to do a search online to see what I can find for you!

MissFro, do you have any pics of your hair? Maybe we can determine the problem. However, healthy hair starts from the inside of the body. We maybe able to assist you with the  hair visible to us, as a start. Products, can not stop a split end from spliting, b ut maybe it can look as if it has more life.

For starters: Have you trimmed your hair? Are your ends see through? Is your overall hair see through? Is your hair weighted down by grease? How often do you wash? what products do you use? What products do you desire to use?Do you use shampoo? Have you ever tried condition washing?   what routine are u using right now?  Oyeah, u said you can't follow the instructions, which instructions are u refering too?

Ok I know thats alot of questions.

Here are some sites that deliver to Japan...I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but here is just a few that I found.

Dear cmesweet

i have washed my haird today and at the moment they are in braids but tomo i will take some photos of my hair and show you . i think this might help :D .. regarding your questions they are not too much at all , i think they will help me determine what is my problem.

the last time i trimmed my hair was about 3week ago , but still it doesn't look nice . but what do you mean when you say see through ends ?

as for the grease i never use it for my hair i started using olive oil as recommneded in this site and i have found it to be helpful .at this time i don't use a certain product and i don't follow a certain regimen. i use what ever i find in the shop mostly anything that smells good *feels ashamed* . i wash my hair once a week , i never do condition washes as i think they might cause me to get flackes ...

most of you guys use professional products made for black hair , since i cant find most of them yet .. i said that i can't follow your instructions .. but once i get teh things from online stores i might try it out .

as for the moment , i ma looking for something that would stop the breakage , shedding , split ends , dull hair . my hair grows in a good way , but it also sheds alot . plus i hate the idea of having to blow dry my hair every week just to make it look nice . i want to be able to just wash air dry and feel good . plus my hair is very tangled especially when  i wash it , i can't even comb it after a wash , i hav ot let it dry .. so mainly i think my problem is lack of moisture ...

thank you very much for the sites i will see what products i need and then consult you girls ..

Hey!

When I say see through ends, I mean, when you let your hair down can you see your shirt right where your ends are located?  Alot of people use just regular shampoo and conditioner, not everyone use things from the ethnic isle. However, the links I gave you consist of products targeted to African Americans. Have you tried combing your hair when wet while conditioner is in your hair?

If you hair needs moisture, you might want to try condition  washing. Just try it 2 times and if you don't like it, than thats fine.

Here is an example of a condition wash schedule...

Wednesday condition wash, Saturday clarify with shampoo, followup with conditioner to retain moisture.

Hello Dear cmsweet

i am so new to these terms i don't know much about hair

so for a hair to be see through is it a good or bad thing ? i am planning to start using keracare products as i heard that they are really good but i am afraid that they would e too expensive for me . motions products are good as well , maybe i will just mix up things , how about that ? hmmm i have tried to comb my hair while it is wet and it comes alot , even when it is conditioned . maybe i should change my brushes as well , at the moment i am using one made of plastic *ouch* too bad for hair isnt it ? i also have this wooden african comb i use when i want to part my hair .

hmmm condition washing , is it when you just wet you hair and apply conditionor and rinse it ? i have tried it but i had the feeling that my hair was still dirty so i had ot use the shampoo , tell me if i am doing something wrong..

An earthquake?! I hope you stay safe!

Six years is a long time, but i've always been fascinated with Japan. It would be nice if I could learn to speak it! I hope your studies go well along with everything else. Maybe you could pm me some pictures of Japan!!

Hello Missfro,

I'm out of town, I was fortunate to find a free internet computer here and no one is on it...for the first time. I might not be on line much because of my vacation...However, see through hair is not a good thing,  it usually means your hair has been completely damaged (over processed) and has become thin. This is what we are not trying to get.

Conditioner washes- here is a link for it http://motowngirl.com/no_shampoo.htm
