QuoteReplyTopic: ITS ME - WANTING BLONDE Posted: July 20 2005 at 7:56am
HI AGAIN - IT'S ME - QUICK SUMMARY - WANTED BLONDE/GOT ORANGE/THEN YELLOW/THEN THEY PUT IN HIGHLIGHTS - (SMALL ONES - STILL WAAAY YELLOW - THINK BRAD PITT'S NEW COLOR - ON A COOL TONE FACE - NOT GOOD!) - SO I WENT TO A STYLIST YESTERDAY AND ASKED FOR HIS OPINION - HE SAID HE WOULD DO A FEW CARAMEL CHUNKY HIGHLIGHTS AND ACTUALLY SOME WHITE BLONDE ONES AS WELL - DOES THIS SOUND OK? I AM SO MISERABLE RIGHT NOW - I'M VERY YELLOW! IF THESE LATEST HIGHLIGHTS DON'T WORK - COULD I JUST PUT A DARK BROWN ALL OVER IT? (WHICH IS WHERE I STARTED - EVEN THOUGH NATURALLY I AM A DARK BLONDE) - WOULD THE BROWN TAKE? HELP HELP

Yes you can go back to brown. But you should probably use a protein filler first.Otherwise depending on the color base you could get some weird colors, like grey,or green.Dont laugh it happens all the time. The filler helps the color lay on your strands more evenly unlike putting color on blond which is usually very porous and will sink right in.And keep in mind if you put brown over it,it will be harder to lift out next time,if you decide to lighten again.Just some food for thought.

you need toner to get rid of the yellow. if i was you and the salon couldn't get it right i would go to sally beauty and get a toner. here's the product link http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1410/320351. mix the toner with 20 vol, wash and towel dry hair. then apply toner, leave on for up to 20 minutes. and yellow will be gone! just make sure that you get a toner with a blue/violet base. good luck.
and god said let there be hair extensions.

Broomboy's right. If your hair has been lifted to the yellow pale yellow stage then you can tone yourself.Born blonde has some nice shades in toners. This would be very easy to do.plus it sounds like you really wanted to go blonde.Good luck.

You put a violet blue toner on it you will have light purple streaks with neutral blonde highlights.
Please go back to the hairstylist. He has the right
idea. It may seem to be more expensive right now but if you
use that toner you will have a disaster on your hands and spend even
more money.
Let us know how it turns out.

lilibeach you have the wrong idea, the only way to get rid of the yellow is to put a blue/violet based toner on her hair. i have done it dozens of times with NO purple streaks! the only reason that would happen is if it was left on way to long or if it was not done right. highlights are not going to get rid of a yellow base. the hair colorist has the wrong idea!
and god said let there be hair extensions.

A toner would work if you are bleached to the yellow stage. It really just depends on what color you are going for.If you are wanting light blonde it must have been lightened to a pale yellow. But if its more reminiscent of the outside of a banana peel then you could go for a medium blonde.Highlights in theory should break up the yellowy base you have.I dont think what the stylist has in mind is bad at all.But if decide to let him do your hair, dont leave til its right. Many stylist will try to convince you it looks ok when they know very well it wasnt what you wanted.Dont settle for anything less than what you initially had in mind.I wish I had done this myself, after have been taken so many times by my last stylist.
HI ALL - THANKS FOR THE MESSAGES - WELL, I WENT TO THE STYLIST YESTERDAY AND IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE HE WAS DOING ALOT - AND I WAS RIGHT - I WALKED OUT LOOKING THE SAME (AFTERWARDS HE SAID HE DIDN'T WANT TO DO TOO MUCH - &*&*%^%^@@@@@) - SO NOW TOMORROW I'M GOING BACK TO THE LADY WHERE I STARTED AND I'M DEMANDING TO BE GIVEN SOME SORT OF COLOR THAT LOOKS NORMAL - IT'S SO YELLOW/ORANGE/GOLDEN IT'S JUST TERRIBLE......AND IT'S SO FUNNY THAT YOU ALWAYS JUST ALMOST WANT TO GET BACK TO WHERE YOU STARTED AT THE END OF THIS ALL - I'LL LET YOU KNOW TOMORROW NIGHT WHAT I LOOK LIKE! YIKES

LET'S SAY TOMORROW I DON'T LOOK LIKE I WANT TO - CAN I DO AN AT HOME ALL OVER COLOR TO BRING SOME DARK BLONDE BACK INTO MY HAIR? I HAVE GUESTS COMING TO VISIT ON SATURDAY AND RIGHT NOW, AS I AM, I WOULD BE HORRIFIED FOR ANYONE TO SEE ME!!

No you cant tone if there is any orange in your hair.Toners are meant for hair without orange. But yes you could get a dark blonde demi. That should work quite well.Just be careful, the demi's hold really well and will come out darker than the swatch on prelightened hair.So get a shade a couple levels lighter than what your going for.Good luck

Broommeboy,
No I am not wrong. If there are
ANY whitened streaks in the hair those pieces will turn
purpley/blue. She stated that someone did try to highlight her
hair some more therefore there would probably be some whitish pieces in
it.
P.S. I am a haircolor specialist!!

I am not looking for an argument lilbeach. I just know that my mom has been a hair colorist for 30 years and according to her unless her hair was done wrong (not bleached to yellow) her hair wont go blue, voilet, or any funky color. it is amazing how many people will LIE about being hair stylist and post telling people total bull crap.
