Just enough to hold your waves in place. Too much will make you look like a grease head that leave stains everywhere.

it varies for me. when im going out the house i just apply a lil
bit to each side and du-rag it for 30-40minutes. but at night when im
doing my routine i be caking it(but i brush it out in the shower every
morning).
