brown over dyed blonde?

Hi,

I am trying to get hair like this:

I have been growing it and when it got quite long i made the mistake of highlighting it. Before I highlighted it looked like this:

Now it looks like this:

Some sections went blonde as planned, some were a little ginger. I have decided that I want to go back to my natural brown, because I think the overall colour is too extreme and I dont like the ginger sections. So what I want to know is....

Will it be ok to dye back over the blonde with brown hair dye? Are there any precautions I should take? And also does anyone have any tips to ensure I return as close as possible to my natural colour?
