Teach me how to use hair glue PLEASE!!!

   I just bought Ice Spiker Hair Glue, and I dont' think I know how to use it.

I have never tried hair glue before, I've only used American Crew gel. 

The lady at the store told me to only use a pea-sized amount. I put it
in my hand, and then tried to rub it in my hands but that didn't work
too well as it just stayed in one spot, and then i put it in my hair
(which is very thick and 1 1/2 inches long) and it didn't really spread
too well, just stayed right in the front. 

So how much of this are you really supposed to use, and are you just
supposed to put it in your hair right away, or rub it in your hands to
spread it, because that didn't work too well.

HELP!
