I'm new here! I want to cut my hair, it's very long and I wanted something like a pixie cut. My regime is pretty simple, I don't put globs of oil or vitamins or anything like that. A shapmoo, a conditioner, thermal heat protectant, blow dry, and a flat iron. Plus I flat iron my hair every day if I want to. That's it, very minimal and simple.

Here are some pics of my hair:

You don't run into any problems with the heat use that often?

You are one lucky girl then b/c my hair would be so damaged on the ends  It would grow fine, but growing past brastrap or longer would never happen over here

diedre0125,

Hi and welcome

You have a nice length of hair!  But be sure that the pixie cut is what you really wanna do.  I don't want to seem as if I'm trying to detour you from your pixie style, but maybe you can wear a cute wig or something to see if it will be what you really wanna do before you cut off all the length?

I agree w/ NOT Principle. Going from your length to a pixie is pretty drastic (IMO). I'd at least try on a wig w/that cut first to be sure that's something you'll enjoy or think will suit you (unless of course you've had it that short b4). Anyway, Good Luck

Hi diedre! You have beautiful hair. That's the length I'm trying to achieve now. It's hard to hear you say you want to chop all of that gorgeous hair off. But, like everyone said, make sure you really want to do it and test it out with a wig or something. If you do decide to, post pics for us to see!

i'm surprised that you can use heat that often...heck, if i did that with my hair?  i wouldn't need a pixie cut...i'd look like a pixie right off!  i'll let you in on a secret..when i was in the Navy, we couldn't wear our hair long in the back or on top of the collar..that was against regulations..i liked my hair long, and so i went to a wig shop and bought a variety of short wigs..it was wonderful!

One day, we were having an inspection, and the back hair of my wig was just hitting just below the collar..i heard the officers as the were inspecting us from the hind ranks..they stopped and the petty officer pointed out the my "hair" was "too long" in the back...and was ready to mark me down for a demerit..without a hitch, i reached up, yanked the front of my wig forward, and went right back to "attention"...

Everyone on the second row was floored....i didn't get a demerit!

Thank you all for such a warm reception. :)

I will try what you all suggested and rock a wig for a couple of weeks first. All of my friends and even my mother are dead set against me cutting my hair. But I feel like long or short, as long as you keep yourself happy and your hair healthy, you will look good. Long hair is way too overrated in my opinion. Plus my hair grows very fast so I don't worry about cutting it and it not growing back.

Some of you have commented on using heat. My hair is very, very strong. I use heat whenever I feel like it but I make sure to wrap my hair at night and wash my hair regularly. When I blowdry it, I use a thermal heat protectant. I really think that it is part genetics. My mother is half white and part Carib Indian (we are all from Trinidad). My dad is part East Indian. Even when my friends and I use the same products (Paul Mitchell, Garnier Fructis, John Freida) I realize that my hair takes to it while their hair rejects it. They use Pink Oil Moisturizer and grease and creams on their hair. If I ever did that, my hair would collapse into a pile of oil.

Thanks again :)

you're welcome..with wigs, if you decide that you want to go short, at least you can pick out which style suits you, then wear it for a while...then if you decide to go long again, you can do it in an instant!

That'll mess with their heads..you know how it is..."oh,  you KNOW she has a weave!  Her hair was >SNAP< this long last week, and now look! it's down to her ass!  Honey you know that ain't her hair!" >SNAP< >SNAP< "sure you right"..."Miss Thang!"...

Does your hair curl any? Or is it just straight or kind of wavy? It is beautiful.

Cool... I was thinking about using the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine line. I'm guessing your hair is relaxed right? If it isn't, then that's amazing...lol :)

Thank you :)

The best response to that is my hair is all over the place!! When it is wet and if I air dry it, my hair is a big ol' mess. I don't have a curl pattern! I have to make my own curls lol.

And yes my hair is relaxed!
