Hi there - I'm brand new with a big problem. Appearently someone spread a substance on my pillow (toothpaste ?) w/o my knowledge. Please don't ask how I didn't know of this vicious act, else I wouldn't be asking for help now - DUH.

Anyway, a portion of my long hair is knotted/matted into rather solid ball of "stuff".  Any advice ???

Thx

I'm sorry.  Some people are so cruel.

If its toothpaste, try soaking yourself in a tub of warm water and let the hair sit in the water for a while (10 minutes)...maybe that will help dissolve some of it off with water so you can work the hair apart with your hands.  Then put tons of conditioner on the matted part (a heavy silicone conditioner will work best for this) and try working it out with a wide toothed comb.  (Seamless would be best if you have one because hair is very delicate when its wet, if not, just wide toothed comb).  Keep in mind how delicate your hair is in that stage, and start at the bottom of the mat and try to tease it apart from the bottom downward with the conditioner in it - being very gentle.

If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to come up with something else.  And also, if it doesn't work, try to find out what it was if it was not toothpaste.

Try Susan's advise and use Paul Mitchell's The Detangler conditioner. It works great on tuff tangles. Put alot of it on your hair. How do you know is toothpaste thought? Does it smell like it. May be it is something else. Well I hope you can fix it. Some people are so unconsiderate. Makes you want to find out who did it, and then switch their hair conditioner for Nair.

Good luck.

How can you not see or smell toothpaste on a pillow before lying down?

Infusium 23 Conditioner for 'Permed & Color Treated' hair is the heaviest silicone conditioner I've ever used.  I can get the worse tangles out using that stuff.  It has the blue writting and cap on the bottle.
