I've used it for my hair when it's humid and love how it looks and feels.  But I've heard that silicone is bad for the hair, does anyone know why?

Because when it builds up it can make your hair brittle, I think.  There are probably other people who can explain it better.  I have a hard time remembering what's supposed to be good and what's not ^_^; .

More awesome than a manatee!

There is an explanation on the Product Finder forum about silicones if you click here.

Hope this helps

I need to use silicone products otherwise I can't comb through my hair after washing & conditioning it.  I will however take a break from them and use a different product for a week or so that doesn't contain silicones.

Thank you for the replies.  Anais, your message was very informative.  I think since the silicones do agree with my hair, I'll continue using them but just take a break every now and then.

Silicones are the best creation ever ever ever for hair!  They create soft and silky hair, and hair that can easily be combed through after washing.  The only problem is that they create build up, which can lead to brittle hair, and breakage.  To prevent this, simply use a good clarifying shampoo every week or two weeks.  Neutrogena Shampoo Anti-Residue Formula, Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo for Normal to Oily Hair, Tresemme European Deep Cleansing Shampoo; are some great choices that are also gentle on your hair.

A good shampoo regimen is to continue using the shampoo you like, but use the clarifying shampoo every couple of weeks.  I clarify with Tresseme about once every week or two weeks.

Goodluck!
