I have long blond hair- it's about waist length, but I'm growing it longer and I guess I have an oval face shape.  I've been thinking about getting bangs for some time, but I had them as a kid and it took me forever to grow them out.  I don't want to regret it!

I have these wisps of hair at my temples and somewhat less so above my forehead that I guess used to be some of my bangs but never grew out.  I don't know why they didn't!  It's been almost a decade!  Anyway, I have no idea what to do with them.  They always look frizzy or out of place.  So I'm wondering if I should get bangs.  I know it's hard without pictures and all, but any advice?

Thanks!

~Kathleen

Well, you could try a very thin fringe of bangs to see if you like them.

Things to consider:

(1) Do you have a lot of hair volume? If so, do you feel "suffocated" by all the hair? Bangs will take out some volume.

(2) What is your hair texture? Straight hair looks better with bangs, wavy and curly look better without.

(3) Do you have a fast shed rate / regrowth rate? If so, then your hair might develop "natural layers" anyway if you let your hair grow without trimming.

(4) Bangs sometimes take different care than the rest of your length. What kind of adjustments did you have to make when you had them? What bothered you about them? What did you like about them?

(5) Do you like putting your hair up? Do you like having an updo that is neat and classy, or messy and playful?

Thanks for the response.  I guess my hair has normal volume, maybe a little on the lesser side.  My hair is straight, although around my hairline is shorter and tends to get a bit frizzy, especially in humid weather.  I have no idea about my regrowth rate!  lol

Last time I had bangs I was a kid.  I never did anything special, and I usually wore my hair in a braid or ponytail.  I usually keep my hair up now because I'm not quite sure what to do with it.  If I could learn some new styles, I'd like to have an updo that is "neat and classy."

I keep going back and forth.  lol =)  To cut, or not to cut?

Ooh, one more consideration:

Do you have a high forehead? A lot of people with high foreheads tend to look good with sideswept bangs.

Hope this helps

Yep, and people with lower foreheads usually look too extreme with
bangs. An oval face shape is usually good for anything, but I would go
with side-swept bangs. Get them straight and about eyelash-grazing
length so they will be quick to grow out and you can style them either
way. Also, you can pin them back with volume on the top; that always
looks cute and is low maintainence.

Hi K Young,

I'm Mitch and I've been a hairstylist for 15 years. and bangs can look great if you put some layers in them and have a style for them like side swept bangs at eye level length I thinklook the best with long hairand if cut and done correctly the bangs could look very sophicated and look classy. Bangs that are just cut straight across are boring and childish looking I think. If you would like to ask me anything more about bangs you can private message me here or message me at: customonegtr@rock.com Good luck with your hair.

Sincerely
Mitch
