hi i am new to forum and i would like to grow my just touching shoulder length hair to bra strap length by my birthday in December of next year.  (do you think that is enough time to reach that length)

i would love to get advice from those you started out at my length and is now bra strap or armpit length.

what is your hair regime?

what is your best shampoo & conditioner?

Do you contribute your growth to taking vitamins or other supplements?

any other good advice would be so appreciated!!

thanks

Welcome! These forums are packed with information that will be useful! I am just getting started myself (almost 8 weeks taking care of my own hair!) and there's so much valuable information to learn. It might be helpful for you to define what your hair is like now (relaxed, natural, amount of heat used, etc) and what you're doing now so that way if there are any serious hair issues, the beautiful ladies on the board can help address them. everyone's hair is different so knowing what you have might make it easier for suggestions

the two big tips i've learned from boards like this is that moisture is your best friend. try washing your hair at least once a week and don't be afraid of that water, it's so good for you. There are tons of ways to get moisture in your routine -- deep conditioner, daily leave-in, daily conditioner washings, etc -- so try learning about all the options that you can and see which ones work for you. it's really a trial and error process (which is half the fun of getting to your hair goal).  the second tip i've learned is to read the labels of the hair products. certain ingrediants should be avoided and many of these are found in the haircare lines geared towards women of color. be a smart shopper and don't waste your hard earned cash.

enjoy your hair journey! i'm sure you'll be able to make your goal and no doubt others will chime in with tons of advice!

Good Job Canopy...she left some good info.

I just want to add to make sure you had moisture to your ends...they are the oldest part of your hair and really need some TLC.  Limit your direct heat, make sure to use a heat protectant.  I think less manipulation is key. I'm sure the other women will be here to assist you as well.

Im certain thats enough time to reach and surpass your goal!  just remember, hair is fragile, so treat it accordingly =).  It needs moisture just as much and just as often as your skin! And putting heat on it daily is like getting a sunburn everyday.  painful right?  dont do it!! he he lol.. I'd also like to add that it is best to wear your hair up (in a bun, afro, or an updo) and away from your shoulders as often as possible.

one of the ingredients that I try to avoid is Sodium Laureth Sulfate.  It is used in N-air to remove hair!! I do however use it once a month to clarify and get rid of product buildup.. some people prefer to use apple vinegar (diluted with water) to clarify; it's natural and perhaps safer on the hair--too stinky for me though..  he he

check out www.growafrohairlong.com for more great info about black hair care as well!

hope that helps! I would say more but I've got to get back to studying for my physics midterm... eeeek!

To whom much is given, much is expected.

Does Nair really have Sodium Laureth Sulfate in it? I checked mine and it doesn't list it in the ingredients. Maybe you are thinking of Sodium Hydroxide(Lye) that's in relaxers.

hey girl,, welcome im shoulder length to and have
the same goal,, only the back of my hair is nearly bra
strap but the ends are rather thin anyway its all
about the ENDS,, i realized this quite recently!! and
am i glad i did,, i finally understand why my hair
would seem to halt at a certain pt and then start
breaking ,,becuz of overlapping relaxers, permanent
coloring over and over,, wayyyy wayyy too much blow
drying with a round brush and not paying ANY
attention to my ends lol(im surprised i have any
hair!),,, ur ends need moisture ,, all of the hair does
but esp those ends esp if theyre at all damaged,
anyhoo MOISTURE and KINDNESS is key to have
healthy hair and healthy is key to long hair... good
luck.... o BTW if u need a list of wonderful products
holla at me,, im a product freak and sometimes buy
things and have to take them back or throw them
away till i find a good one.. i use a bunch of products
that work well for my hair at least...
Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED

thoroughly enough,,, here goes,, for a regimen,, do
make sure u seek out those awful split ends and
trim a little above them( im gonna lose my eyesight
cuz i search them neurotically LOOL) ,, use heat
sparingly and when u do always use a heat
protecant product like Fantasia IC Heat protectant
serum or spray or any of em there are soo many
nowadays in any BSS,, deep condition AT LEAST
once weekly ,, i use Neutrogena triple moisture
mask,, this stuff is magic!!!,, leave in on for 40 to and
hour or so,, and i use the cream lather shampoo
from them also,, its wonderful stuff!! and just began
using ATone reconstructor,, the slipperiest con u will
find and recenty i began using MSM,, u can resreach
this on google,, i beleive it has sped my hair growth
somewhat and has def made my skin softer and
last but not least liquid flaxseed oil,, i LOVE it,, this
has also improved my skin and my hair seems
softer,, its extremely beneficial to the health of the
body.....
