While on vacation recently, I decided that I needed a haircut. (I usually get it cut down to just over 1" when I go in, but this time I had let it go for months, so it was almost 4.5" long, longer than I've had it in years.) I found a salon in the local shopping center, and one of the first things the hairdresser said to me when I sat down, before I told her how short I wanted it was, "So why did you wait so long since your last cut?"
Since I was on vacation and was over 1000 miles from home, I had never met her before, and I assumed that I had done a good enough job of keeping my hair looking neat this whole time, but she still knew. I was just amazed at the sort of talent that it takes to recognize something like that. Anyone else have a similar story of a hairdresser just 'knowing' when you've been slacking off?
-Incidentally, the reason I let it get so long was that my girlfriend thought it would look good if it was a little longer. It wasn't enough of an improvement to make the extra effort worth it, though once it got long enough, she decided to take out her curlers and hood dryer and have a little fun at my expense.
