QuoteReplyTopic: question for e-bay/paypal users ? Posted: November 18 2005 at 3:14pm
Hi everyone I have finally decided to buy a flat iron through e-bay. I have have a few questions for long time ebay users:
1. Can I cancel my paypal account after purchasing an item? I am 18 and I am going to use my debit card to pay for the flat iron. I don't want to be stuck having to pay hidden fees and whatnot. I am a little bit hesitant having all my bank information out like that. I would have used money order but the seller does not accept that, which is why I want to know if i can cancel/delete my account afterwards (if my flat iron works great and there is no need for return). If I cancel it will I be stuck with any legal and/or financial ramifications?
2. In your expert opinion, which is the better deal (keep in mind I am Canadian)
Paypal themselves will not charge you any fees as a buyer; you're more likely to see fees as a seller accepting payments. Your information is not just "out there" - it is encrypted and behind Secure Socket Layers. This is not to say that it's 100% foolproof, because nothing is. But I've been using Paypal for nearly four years now, and I can account for every charge I've seen against or for my account. Paypal does quite a bit to keep your bank information secure. If I recall correctly, as a seller, I didn't even know how my buyers paid me - I just know that they did. You can certainly cancel your account, because it's free. You may find yourself wanting it again later, though.
Now, as for your irons, I wouldn't recommend any iron that sits at 410F with no adjustment. Only you know your hair, though.
You should talk directly to the seller about customs fees.
Hope that helps.
Make every day you have count, before the time comes for you to count every day you have.
Thanks Supersugar, that definately helped me. I was just really worried, and I really didn't want to read the long agreement and policy at Paypal. I think my hair will do fine with 410, at least it's not 450. I had used a friend iron b4 and i used it on 410 and it was ok for my hair, and I used to have an iron set at 395, and my hair STILL looked bad, lol. Thanks aanyway for the suggestion and Thank you again for your help, I feel better now.
I have an FHI as well and I REALLY recommend that you buy an RVI model rather than an RFI model. You really need variable heat settings for any iron ESPECIALLY a ceramic one. I have the 302RVI model and I use my iron at no higher than 300 degrees and my hair comes out really great! Anything over 330 and I could smell hair. You really don't need that much heat with these ceramic irons. They heat evenly and aren't like conventional irons on the market. Before you buy it, really think about the fixed heat thing. I totally agree with Supersugar. The RFI's are much cheaper for a reason. They can really cause you damage over time .
Oh an paypal is VERY safe. Pretty much the safest way you can buy on the internet! If anything goes wrong- you can easily clear it up with paypal. But before you pay for anything online, make sure the web address on the page has https:// instead of http:// The s means you are working on a secure-encrypted server and connection. It is totally safe! I hope you enjoy your FHI-- I know I love mine!
Thanks sistaslick for the suggestions, if you guys REALLY feel that I should get a flat iron with variable temp. setting then I should wait and save up then. I am just SO implusive when it comes to buying stuff. I don't like to wait, lol. I don't have a job right now and the only reason I wanted to get the fixed one is that it's cheap. Also sistaslick I know 410 is high, but my old gold n hot flat iron had a fixed temp at 395 and my hair was still frizzy esp. at the edges. I am just afraid that if I get a heat variable flat iron the extra cost will be for nothing if I end up using it at 410. Anyway you guys know more then me, so I think I should just take your word on it. I talked to this person that was selling FHI locally and he suggested that I should get the variable heat setting as well. Thank you sistaslick and Supersugar for your advice, my implusive instincts are going to have to be set aside for now :)

Yeah don't rush it girl- save up a little more to get that variable heat one. It is definitely worth it, I promise.
410 degrees on a gold n hot and 410 on an FHI or other ceramic iron is not the same thing. There is a big difference between a ceramic iron and a Gold n Hot. I promise! They are more expensive for a reason. Trust me, you haven't seen 410 until you've gone ceramic.
I think I had a hot tools or gold n hot flat iron back in the day and I used it on the hottest setting and even that wasn't hot enough for my roots Even my curling iron on its highest setting can't compare to my FHI on its lowest setting. Also you have to realize that the FHI doesn't lose heat as you use it. You know how some irons start to cool down as you use it on your hair and its not as hot as when you first began... these heat evenly and stay hot the whole time and they heat up to the selected temp in like 3 seconds! (As you can see, I love my lil flat iron)
And you're lucky too b/c the price for these irons has gone down some! I bought mine on Ebay as well and it was $102 for 1 1/4 inch red plates-- you can probably get the same one for 80-90 bucks now.

When you get yours.... you'll see.
LOL I know EXACTLY what you're talking about those cheap flat iron. My old gold n hot would lose the heat in about 15-20 minutes and I would have to bang the stupid plates together a few times to get the heat to work (I know it sounds stupid but it actually worked lol). I checked the FHI prices it's about 106 cdn and about 125 with shipping. That is one of my options, I'm also interested in the solia too b/c it has tourmaline and ceramic plates, but I haven't seen such GREAT photos for before and after at folica. I seen the before and after for the sedu and the hair looks beautiful, but the problem is that it cost about 180-200 cdn, but is supposedly the best iron according to Allure magazine. If I bought it I am afraid I would break it b/c it is so light, lol. Also the plates get really got in the exterior. Whereas the solia doesn't and the solia would cost be about 135-140 canadian, and if you look at the product description for both, they are pretty similar. Also I know this person who is selling FHI with variab;e setting for 130 locally, but he sells them independently. I am afraid the waranty won't be excepted if i buy it from him. Oh I am rambling, sorry I tend to do that. I think I will do more research and save (something I am NOT good at doing, lol)
BTW I can't believe I was considering to buy another Gold N Hot Ceramic stove heater. I checked the heat and it goes up to and remains at 460C (840F)
