QuoteReplyTopic: Whats the deal with cotton and wool Posted: November 21 2005 at 5:35pm
Why is it that ppl of other races can happily sleep on cotton pillow cases and wear wool hats and we cant what is it about our hair thats different its cold and i like wearing my wool coat and hat it keeps me warm darnit
This is more important to some than to others. I admit there are probably advantages to using satin pillowcases, etc..(this would apply to anyone, not just AA). Personally though, I would be too hot if I used satin pillowcases, even silk satin. I happily use cotton. Also, I do not give a second thought to wearing cotton, wool, hats, etc...

I think some ppl avoid them like the plague b/c of their rough texture, which has a tendency to snag or pull the hair as well as absorb any moisture from it. (at least, that's what I heard)
I guess the snagging can get kinda bad when you're sleeping, tossin' and turnin'.
But hey, I still sleep on my cotton sheets. Don't have much of a choice, silk and satin can cost a pretty penny.
Oh, and when it comes to hats, I don't think it's such a bad thing. It's not like you're rubbing your head up against it like you were sleeping.

I sleep on whatever...however i cut off a velcro piece off of my coat today. It was in the hood area...to keep the hood tucked into the coat. I had to cut that mug off...when I was relaxed it grabbed my hair and recently (with a head wrap on) it found some hair to grab on to. So off the velcro piece went!

I like the ones from Bed Bath and Beyond because they zip shut so you don't have to worry about your pillow coming out. I paid only $5 and I only use one.
