QuoteReplyTopic: Help: Plum-color to brunette dilemma Posted: December 01 2005 at 3:06pm
A couple of weeks ago, my friend colored her previously dyed-brown-with-blonde-highlights hair with a chocolate shade dye that she thought would create an all-over nice, chestnut brunette tone. The ending result was a bold plum purple.
Is there any way we can correct this color from plum to a solid brunette without violet tones? I do have some hair-colorist experience, but I thought I would request the opinions of any professionals or more-experienced colorists.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!!

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I purchased a semi permanent hair dye which was supposed to be a nice brown (sort of dark chocolate) and it ended up plum. I dye my hair a golden brown and it pretty much got rid of the plumish reflexion. I believe the color I used was a 4.3 (Medium Golden Brown) from Garnier Nutrisse. Purple is blue mixed with red, to fix that you need to use the opposite colors of blue and red (just take a look at a color wheel), that's why you should try golden tones, which contain yellow and red, and should get rid of the blue, thus, cancelling out the violet. Good luck and let us know how it turned out.
