With or w/o glue? GOT PROBLEMS!!!

Hey!  I'm new! GOT PROBLEMS!!!!  I have doc's shrinkies, microlinks(all sizes), curved and straight fusion wands, latex w/ nail glue tipped hair, and keratin tipped hair.

I have been practicing.  I had a few problems with doc's shrinkies w/ keratin tipped hair.  After reheating, strands came out fine, but the shrinky would not!!!  So, I am wondering if I use keratin tipped if I need to use shrinkies w/o glue? OR, is it just the shrinkies I was using?  I used both types of wands with adjustable temp and one with no adjustable temp?

They were deformed and balled up into a mess during removal!!! 

I couldn't get them to shrink small enough w/ one tip,  had to use 2 or 3.

Also, I would love to see some pics on placement and parting size for short hair.  I have red all the tutorials and demos.  Still not clear about how to build weight in short hair.  I am thinking U shaped partings and no skips.
