I have breakage all through my hair.  I want to get my hair  back into shape.  What products should I use?  What can I use to moisturize my hair everyday w/out weighing it down?

welcome kayela(cute avatar),, i think ur gonna have
to state a little more about ur hair b4 anyone can
really help but ill try ,,, do u relax ur hair and list what
products u do use now...     breakage is usually the
result of chemical damage and a lack of protein or
moisture or both,, If ur hair is breaking terribly,, i
would suggest a product like Nexxus Emergencee,,
it should seriously slow down any breakage ur
having another cheaper one is Aphogee
Reconstructor( ihavent used it),, many ppl have
stopped breakage with it,, The Emergencee is a
polymeric and protein reconstrucor and u must
shampoo it out after use,, it really seems to thicken
up every hair strand,,, if its moisture u need,, then a
product like Neutrogena triple moisture 3 minute
mask is an absolute WONDER,, i think it saved
myhair,, i almost cried after i saw my hair after using
the Neutrogena Creme Lather shampoo,, i had
never seen myhair like that,, not even when it was
virgin hair,, I wholeheartedly reccomend this if u have
dry hair,, and for a daily moisturizer,, i just use a little
safflower oil,, its a great humectant ,, contains a load
of essential fatty acids and isnt too heavy and its
CHEAP or if u have more doe to blow on hair
products lol then Phyto 9 is a wonder,, it wont weigh
hair down AT ALL but is very moisturizing,,, its a little
miracle... and also if ur hair is breaking dont use a
lot of heat,, use a little as possible or u'll worsen it
and sleep on satin or silk or with a silk or satin
bandana..... good luck...
Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED

Thanks so much for your advice!  I really appreciate it.  I usually get a relaxer every 6-8 weeks at a salon. The sensitive kind (mizani or affirm).  I have totally mistreated my hair and I want it to get back to being healthy.  I wash my hair every other week and I am looking for a non-damaging hair style.  What about roller-set spiral curls?  What products should I use to maintain this style?

Also you mentioned a moisturizing shampoo?  When should I switch to a clarifying shampoo to avoid buildup?  Thanks again!

For non damaging styles you could try braid-outs, twists/ twist-outs  ( i normally just do twist), you can wear your hair in a bun.

For pin curls you could do a rollerset, or you could do a staw set.

Directions for any of those styles can be found using this link http://www.motowngirl.com/how_to.php.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/articles.php?action=view article&artid=17 this one is a link for a sock bun, bunball, doughnut or whatever you want to call it. its one of my favorites

As for moisturizing shampoo, I adore Creme of Nature. You can find it about anywhere in the "ethnic hair section."

To rid of build up you could use a clarifying shampoo. (I'm fond of the V05 Kiwi lime squeeze conditioner.) Or you can squeeze the juice of a lemon into your shampoo or conditioner. You could also rinse your air with Apple Cider Vinger.  I've also heard something about baking soda, but I'll get back to you on that one.I personally clarify one a week. But be careful, to much clarifying can and will dry out your hair and scalp

Also for more information you might want to try looking in some of the older posts, or try doing a search.

I hope I was of some help. . By the way, Welcome to the board kayela!

ETA: Also to get your hair back healthy, you might want to try to use heat as little as possible, if at all

thank you for the tips sakura...

Should I use hairspray to keep the roller set fresh?

Also do u think I should alternate shampoos (once moisturizing once clarifying) with my recon washes?

Your welcome Kayela, im glad I could be of some help.

I wouldn't do the hairspary if it has Alcohol in it. It's generally bad for your hair and causes it to snap with no mercy. For hold you might want to try Aloe Vera Gel, you use it as you would a normal hair gel. Or you can find A normal hair gel that you like. There are some other things you can do for hold, but I forgot. Maybe someone can help me out here.

You can alternate with shampoo. But my best advice is to try it and listen to your hair. It will let you know loud and clear if something does or doesn't work - its just smart like that ya know?
