Ive been having this issue since i stopped going to
the salon,, I'll wash my hair, reconstruct and deep
condition and when i rinse it all out its soo soft and
silky but just WAIT till it dries!! the parts of my hair
that still have relaxer are SOOOOO DRY!! theyre
almost crispy till they get ironed ,, then they turn into
silk but I dont like that the time between the wash
and the ironing my hair will be so utterly thirsty,, im
sure that cant be good for it,, I tried Infusium which
when i sprayed a bit too much was horridly stuff like
hairspray so thats out and for weeks have been
using Mizani Thermalastic leave in and I think it
made it worse becuz I used my old bottle of Nioxin
Bliss leave in and its less crispy but still bad ,,
anyone know of a leave in that will keep it soft and
smooth till i iron but WONT weigh it down at all?? or
is this a lost cause
Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED

Why don't you try a creamy leave in like NTM silk touch or Salerm 21?  These usually work well at smoothing the cuticle and leaving the hair very soft.  Infusium has too much protein and will add to the crunch of airdrying at times.  I apply one of my creamy leave ins and let it dry a little... then I apply a moisturizer and a light coating of oil and my hair dries light and fluffy

I airdry 99% of the time. Once it's dry I use a moisturizer. Cantu Shea Butter is great, so is Jojoba oil, NTM Silk Touch Leave In, Suave Coconut Conditioner are all good ones to use.

that silk touch leave in,, i use almost every other NTM
product lol,, yeah ,,, i always used to think Infusium
was a great moisturizer till i tried it again a few
weeks ago and that stuff will make ur hair crunch,,
sistaslick, do u mean the salerm21 leave in or the
regular conditioner,, is it a spray?

I agree with QueenLinda, the Cantu shea butter is really good.  It made my hair really soft w/o weighing it down.

@cookie.....do you let your hair air dry loose?  I've never done this before flat ironing because I thought it might make my hair harder to flat iron.  I always wrap mine or put it in a braid and sit under the dryer so it's not so curly.  I was just wondering if it was hard to get your hair straight w/o blowdrying first.

You know, I really don't think there is a way around this problem, because what you are seeing is the stark contrast between your relaxed hair and your natural hair. Even when my hair is bone straight, and I deep condition, once my hair dries, it looks dry. That's basically the state of our hair. But, too much protein will dry your hair, so it's good to add a moisturizing treatment to your regimen. I don't blow dry by brushing, but I will put warm air on a low setting to dry my hair. When it's still a bit damp, I put a small amount of oil, pomade, etc. on my hair. A bit of warm air from the hair dryer, will seal it into your hair. Right now, I'm into Ojon, which is a fabulous, but an expen$ive treatment. But Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba or Almond Oil, Nourish & Shine or Nature's Blessing, are also great to use.

My hair does the same thing.  The night before I wash my hair, I leave conditioner in it and sleep in a plastic baggy.  I leaves my har soft and its not dry when it air dries...just really nappy!
