Hi all,

Here's my alternative to Colorfix (for those of you who can't get it like me) - Goldwell System Color Remover.  It's the same really, surprising gentle to the hair....my hair's been left really soft.  Which is strange because it's a professional product...

I got my hair to mid brassy brown after the first application, but the mixture was so runny that I didn't need to use the second box with the first, so I'll do my second application tomorrow and hopefully it'll go lighter.  After that I need to dye it with Light Ash Brown Nice N Easy...I hope it doesn't go dark again - I'll be heartbroken if it does!

I've added some clip in purple salon entensions to see how they work and cut my own hair (trimmed and added some layers to the front and all over)!  It looks fab!  The Salon isn't ALWAYS the answer it seems, especially for a young student with limited funds!.

I'll post pictures tomorrow when it's all done and dusted...thankyou all for your help (2nd time lucky!).

By the way it's so easy to cut your own hair!  The hardest part is the initial trim, getting it level, that's the only bit I got my BFs mum to help me with.  But putting layers in is very easy.  I've managed to get it more or less the same as how I get it done at the salon for �20...but this was free free free!

I'm stripping my hair again tonight after my Law exam at college ...and then I'll post you the very final result.

I have vowed not to go too dark again...a lighter brown is more complimentary to my fair face.

Ok, I need a little bit more help with my hairdye now.  (Rebekah?!!)

I did 3 strand tests yesterday with the Light Ash Brown Nice N Easy hair colour on the mid brassy brown that my hair is now....as I thought, it's gone a very dark brown (not black though phew!).  It's a lovely colour on all 3 strands, but it's too dark.  I left the dye on the strands for intervals on 10, 20 and 30 minutes, and the 30 minute strand has a lot less brassyness in it.  This is the colour of my hair now, and is as light as it will go with colour stripper I think:







So, I was wondering if there was anything I could do the stop the dye going so dark over my hair...can I leave conditioner on?  Use a protein conditioner?!  My roots are about 2 inches of orangey blonde from where the red dye was stripped from it....but I couldn't do a strand test on that so I don't know how light or dark it will turn out!!

Arghhh, I was so close to the finishing line!

Here's the dye I've got: as you can see it appears to be pretty damn light, verging on dark blonde, I can't even get a lighter brown than this!!!  Now, I'm not AIMING for this colour, I'll never got it, I'm aiming for a mid ash brown and only got one this light because I knew my hair was porous - is it possible?

Sounds like you did a good job, the dark hair will lighten after a week.  About the red stripped roots, I think the light clairol color you picked will work on the roots because it is so much lighter than the color you did the rest of your hair.  And your roots will absorb FAST the color because they are extra porous.  Can you do one strand test ON your head before you do the whole roots??  Sounds challenging, but you sound pretty talented with your hair, so I think you can do it!

I suppose i could try it underneath at the roots...arghh 

Or, because I've got 2 boxes, I could put the dye on the roots for 10 minutes, and the rest on for another 5/10 minutes....then if it goes wrong it wont be as hard to wash out.

If it all DOES go wrong again though...Taunya (Blondie1972)  Has kindly donated Colorfix to me because I can't get it over here.  She's ever so kind!

Well, wish me luck!  I need to get it done because I've got college tomorrow.

lol, that was  kind of Blondie1972!!  I do wish you luck!  I think you are right on about the timing, 10 minutes roots (maybe 12 minutes...) and 5 minutes on the rest.

Your lighter hair after the colorfix looks really nice! It looks shiny and healthy too. I don't have any tips on what to dye it now, but you look so much better already.

Hi,

Last night I put the light ash brown on the roots for 15 minutes and then did my hair for 10...I experienced some stinging for the first time, so I panicked and rinsed it off!  I know why this was though, it's because I'd washed and shampooed my hair directly before - I should've known better!  My scalp is not damaged it was just a little sensitive.

Anyway, The hair still dyed OK, and my roots now blend in a lot better.  They are still to light compared to the now-less-brassy lengths, but I still have a box of the same dye left which I can do in another few days (give my hair a rest!).

Here is what it looks like now, with the purple streaks, I'm happy with it...even more so that I saved a dreaded trip to the salon!  I worked it out that I did all this for half the price I would have been charged at the salon!  I'm chuffed!

The pictures in this are a little misleading because the brown is less orangey and not as dull/dark.  The light in this room isn't very good...I'll post some more at the weekend when I'm here to see daylight and not at college

This is my hair in natural light, instead of stupid fake lights...

My roots are still too light, but I can sort it out tonight.
